  1. my dog HATES dog shoes. Wont even look at them. But he loves baby socks. They are really soft and work well.
  2. well, the booties are the best thing and they do velcro on but otherwise just try salting the area she will be going out on and that should keep the ice melting. If her fur does freeze, soak her paws in warm water to melt the ice before she has a chance to chew on it...good luck!
  3. There is a product called Musher's Secret that is made for this. http://www.musherssecret.net/ Drs. Foster and Smith sell it, but there is probably cheaper suppliers. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=10119&ref=4173&subref=AA&s_kwcid=TC-2758-178583842021-S-20154287021
  4. You can get special mittens for dogs, that tie around their paws. Snow dogs use them when they are sledding. http://www.discountramps.com/dog-shoes.htm
  5. Boots are the only answer. If your dog isn't left unattended, then she won't be able to pull them off. If she is left unattended outside, then don't use boots. If your dog is an outside dog, then she requires the proper shelter, which will prevent the problems you are encountering. If she is an inside dog, when she comes in, dip each of her feet in a small pail of warm water, which will quickly get rid of the snow.
  6. Try Musher's Secret, it's great stuff. If that doesn't work, give the booties a try- once she gets moving I doubt she'd chew them. Mine don't like to wear their boots in the house, but are fine with them out on walks in the snow. I have Epiks brand boots that zip up, I find them easier to put on and keep on than the velcro-wrap type fasteners.
  7. Mushers Secret is the best to use - Booties get pulled off in deep snow easily. DO NOT salt the area as one person suggested, salt burns dog paws like the devil. You can however buy pet-safe snowmelt in Pet Stores.
  8. they have a spray in pet stores
  9. um . . . surely you're not turning your dog out in the snow while you're not there? Booties work well as long as you're with the dog so they can't chew them.
  10. If it is a quick walk outside for your pet, maybe just make sure there are some areas to walk him/her that is free of snow and ice. Salt sounds like a good idea, but I have also heard it is capable of burning their feet as well, so if you do salt an area, after the melt, sweep excess salt chips away. If your dog stays outside, the best thing I have had experience with is hay. Spread a large area on top of any snow and ice and as he/she gets her feet cold, she will return to the hay pile to relax. Hay should also be used inside the doggy house to help maintain heat. Dogs love to be cozy too.
  11. You need to keep the hair between the toes and pads clipped short, so they don't accumulate snow.
  12. They make dog boots. You can get them at a pet supply store. Do not put salt where your dog walks! Salt will burn your dogs pads! You can buy pet safe deicer.
