how come dogs eyes turn blue instead of red in red eye pictures?

I've always noticed that when I have red eye in pictures, my dog has blue... why?

  1. My beagle mix has blue but my son's husky's eyes are red. It is something to do with the coloring in the back of the eye. A vet explained it to me once but I got lost.
  2. Really that happens to you. My dog has blue eyes and in a picture she gets red eye.It probably has to deal with there eye color.
  3. Most animals have a special reflection in the backs of their eyes; you've most likely seen this while driving, where a cat or deer is in or near the road. Not sure why exactly but any vet would tell you that. As for the red/blue eyes, it depends on the angles you're getting on your pets. Humans get red eye, while the "blue" eye comes from that special reflection. If you see an animal with the red it was probably at a wrong angle.
  4. You know how when you shine a light on a dog's eyes when it's dark and their eyes light up? Dogs have a reflective membrane in the back of their eyes which helps them see at night. The flash of the camera reflects off of that, and it can vary in color from red to blue to green depending on what kind of light the flash uses, how bright it is, and sometimes the angle the light enters the eye. Our eyes don't have that so our eyes show up a different color.
