Cross Breeds

My senior dog drools when hes with our two new puppies?

Yesterday we adopted two new cross-breed puppies from the SPCA. They are around 6 months old. When we brought them home and introduced them to our Senior black Lab, they started playing with him and play biting his mouth etc. Then he started drooling and sat away from the pups. And now every time he's around them he starts drooling. It's really weird. Does anyone know why he would drool around them?

  1. when dogs are really stressed, some times they start drooling. it can be drool droplets or drool strings. your older dog is very stressed around the pups. and the drooling is a reaction
  2. He's stressed. Don't let them bother him.
  3. He's stressed, watch out...he's going to eat them!..Kidding. :)
  4. A lot of dogs will drool when they're excited/stressed.
  5. My dog only drools when he's stressed out. Sounds like your dog is just experiencing stress because of the new additions to your family. Once he gets used to them, the drooling will subside.
  6. As other posters have mentioned, it's fairly normal. Try not to alter your "senior's" patterns, schedule, etc to much at first. As long as senior doesn't begin to experience dramatic changes to his own world, he will accept the new pups as "buddies" and will enjoy their company. Try to keep life as normal as possible for your lab and he will learn to relax with his new buds.
