How do i get my dog and cats to like each other?

How do i get them to like each other? Our cats are eight and my dog is one and they've never been closer than 5 feet to each other. My dog likes to chase the cats sometimes, but other times she stands there and just looks at them. Every once in awhile the cats get curious and sneek in the room to look at her, but usually they run as soon as they see her which doesnt help cuz then she chases them. I would really like them to be friends but i dont know what to do. Any suggestions?

1. I got my dog and cat to get along by just holding my kittie and letting the dog come up and sniff her. After awhile they will get used to being close to eachother and will be less likely to fight. the chasing is a differnt matter, even if they were best friends your dog may still just want to have fun and run after the cat
