What is your opinion on cloning extinct animals?

im doing a report on japanese scientists who have been cloning mice that have been frozen for 16 years. they now believe they can clone extinct animals, such as the mammoth. whats your opinion? i need some for my report.

  1. -wow that would be pretty cool as long as they keep them locked up somewhere where they feel at home it would be really weird though its like if we were frozen for 16 years then cloned we would probably feel out of pplace and not understand what all te technology around me is all about :/ lOl bieng an animal i think that would be great to clone extinct animals as long as theyre kept safe like a jurasic park type of thing haha only safer hopefully :]
  2. I do not feel that this is ethically irresponsible. This is simply science. It allows us to understand how our world works, how animals have evolved, how their behavior has evolved, etc. We already do so much that could be considered less ethical. Fly, mouse, monkey studies resulting in pain or death of the experimental model... Bringing life seems much better than pain and death.
  3. The purpose behind the cloning would determine whether or not it would be a good thing or bad thing to do. There's a reason why species become extinct, perhaps due to environmental damage to their habitat, competition for survival by other obviously well adapted species, predation by far fitter species. the list goes on. cloning, in the hope of reintroducing these species to the wild would be a process executed in vain, and i think a waste of time and resources. But the idea of cloning extinct animals is a nice one. I would support it if it meant, rather than re-introducing to the wild, keeping them in zoos for children in future generations to see. In this way you could SHOW children why logging and destroying habitat, polluting rivers etc. are bad.
  4. i think that would be awesome!!! most animals that have recently become extinct has been the fault of humans so it wouldn't be a bad thing or anything if you cloned them. just making a wrong thing right again. i don't know about dinosaurs though...that would be scary. might be cool for a zoo though!! like Jurassic park! omg. it would be awesome if they could clone the tasmanian tiger which became extinct sometime in the last 50 years or so.. not really sure...but yeah it was hunted to extinction and was the only australian big cat kind of thing..although it was kind of more like a dog. it would be good if they could bring it back.
  5. Sure, it may sound cool, but I'll also have to disagree with the person who stated that having them in captivity would be good. Once they're held in captivity, it's hard to get them back out. I don't think that revealing them in the zoo would encourage them not to litter/pollute our ecosystem. If one dies out because of pollution, they can just simply say they should just clone it. Generally, cloning is a bad thing. The expenses are high and it's very risky. If we keep doing this, we may cause self-evolution and chaos when cloning is in the wrong hands. It may cause birth defects or early-aged deaths. Also keep in mind the religious issues. It is against Christianity to play the role of creation, or doing what God does. Cloning makes "perfect" animals. In my opinion, it destroys the beauty of our genetic environment. There's no such thing as perfection; why have it? There are still many questions to uncover. If a cloning experiment fails, what happens to the animal? Does it die? What do the animals think? What if we were cloned, and it forms all sorts of chaos in the world? What if scientists mistakenly create winged humans or some weird type of creature? How will we be able to detect these things with this type of technology? Will we even stop cloning according to protesters?
