- The main importances of the rain forests are ecological but there is a moral reason also. With the concerns of global warming, the rain forests of the world are one of the most crucial aspects to counter the effects of man made as well as natural carbon build ups as they involve some of the most densely foliated regions of the earth with some of the most effective plants. In addition, these areas are needed to hold the local environment in climates that can see more than 200 inches of rain in a season. Even this climate will change with the loss of these precious plants- they are a natural air-conditioner and the warmer climates will produce dryer climates in essence bringing to the world another desert zone ....and raising the global temperature even more. Finally, we have a moral responsibility to protect everything that was created- not only from extinction, but to encourage its sustainability as well. When these plants and animals are gone, they can NEVER come back. In addition, many of these areas are inhabited by third world citizens who are dependant on what those areas not only offer but actually keep their communities intact in many ways that ought not be consumed by more developed backings in quest for their own personal interests. I have seen the South American rainforests and truly it is one of the most beautiful that I have ever seen, They must not perish! You can find more info on Wekipedia regarding rain forests. They can help with animal and plants but let me add that a live Toucan (bird) was the prettiest bird that I have ever seen,
