Do small dogs nails grow faster then large dogs?
I have a small Chihuahua/Beagle mix and a Rottweiler, and it seems that I have to trim my smaller dogs nails more often then my Rottweilers. Do small dogs nails grow faster then large breed dogs? Or is it just my dog? That's odd, because my smaller dog is much more active then my Rottweiler.

- I don't think so. I think it's a common misconception because small dogs tend to spend more time indoors than bigger dogs who often require more romping room and exercise. The bigger dogs wear their nails off quicker than the littler ones.
- if the little one is in the house mostly that is why he does not wear them down much like the bigger dog does there for ethey have to be cut.
- Yes because they have less weight and gravity pulling down on them constantly then larger dogs. Their nails do not wear down as fast as larger dogs do.
- A little one would probably be inside more often. Naturally a dog will lose it's sharp point of their nail by walking on concrete. Staying inside all the time equals less time to scrape their nails.
- This is an assumption: But larger dogs have more weight to distribute on their feet, and this would cause the dogs nails to grind down much quicker. It also varies on what surfaces they walk on all the time. My sister-in-law has wooden floors, and her dogs nails stay shorter naturally. I have carpet, and my guys' nails grow like no tomorrow. I do find, however, that my large breed dogs nails get points faster than they grow out. Other than that, I'd say its equal.
