Cross Breeds

Do you prefer cross breeds or pedigree dogs?

I love pedigrees and cross breed dogs and I own a border collie and a border collie cross and I love them both so I dont have a preference but was just wondering what you's prefer.

2. Cross breeds are more hardy. Pedigrees are more beautiful [ mostly ] On the whole I will vote for Pedigrees.

4. I've owned both types, i find pedigrees have a lot of health problems and cross breeds are unique, i love them both though.

6. I like all dogs - it almost a racist question......haha I would say cross breeds. Only becuse they generally are healthier. they tend to have less problems (less inbreeding) and life longer. Pedigree dogs have been breed over time to look like thety are 'supposed too' which has lead to problems. ie hip dysplegia in german shepards. bad teeth in gey hounds eetc etc
7. i love all dogs but cross breads are more hardy and less prone to hereditary deformities like blindness, arthritis, diabetes etc
8. i would say both i had a pedigree lab for years who i had to put down and now i have a cross staffie/lab, he has a mad personallity he's a brillant dog he is a bit dizzy a bit like a dumb blonde at times but a great dog!
9. i would never go for a pedigree, more chance of dieases and health problems, simply because of less variation and IN BREEDING.

12. I like pedigrees and mongrel too, but it not the type of dog, its the breed. cos i like jakies and i have one but id also like a jackie cross. I dont like labs and i wouldnt like a lab cross. U no what i mean?

14. When you buy a pedigree then you should know what you are getting. That includes all the health problems. A cross breed or mongrel could also have problems but are generally less likely to have genetic problems. I have owned both mongrels and pedigree dogs and have loved them all.
15. i have a pedigree cavalier king charles spaniel and a crossbreed dashchund. They are both lovely dogs, but i feel the dashchund is more loyal. love them both like mad tho!
16. It all depends on which pedigree you're comparing with which cross-breed. Impossible to answer mostly. When it comes to pedigree poodle or cross between a retriever and german shepherd, for example, I'm with the cross. But if it's a cross between a poodle and shitshu or a labrador, I'm for the pedigree lab. Interesting question though.

19. I just love dogs! We used to have a border collie cross. His name was Frodo Baggins and he had his eighteenth birthday in September 2002. We had to have him put to sleep in the November of the same year. He had a stroke in the April of that year and coped with it very well, but the second stroke more or less made him a Zombie. Farewell, Frodo, the reluctant hero! We knew that we needed a dog in our life but I had decided that a dog that needed a home would find us. In the August of the following year we were approached by a couple that were moving to Dubai and couldn't take their dog with them. She is a Jack Russell! I am not sure that they are classed as pedigree - but she is pure bred! So, my answer still is that I just love dogs!

Mutts can have a "pedigree" .YOU have a pedigree,if you know your parents. It *just* means a "family tree"!
24. I have two Collies myself, which I bought from working stock on a farm. The kennel club don't actually recognise them as a pedigree. However, I find them the most intelligent of breeds and great fun. I do find that cross breeds tend to behave better than pedigrees but, no matter what, the Collie is the best of all.
25. By pedigree, I presume you mean purebred as all dogs have a pedigree, even if it's unknown. All dogs are wonderful but, like many people I only buy pedigree because I want a dog for a specific purpose & want to know that the dog I am getting will suit that purpose. With a crossbreed you don't know what characteristics will come to the forefront. I don't know why people persist in the myth that crossbreeds are more healthy. A purebred dog from a reputable breeder will have had all the necessary health tests as will many of its ancestors. Most of my purebreds have lived well into their teens & never had a serious illness in their lives.
26. I happen to have pedigree dogs, but I love dogs of all kinds, and some of the smartest ones we've had have been the mutts. I don't like little yappy dogs that never shut up.
27. I prefer purebred dogs. Pedigree is a fancy word for "Family Tree", so I guess all dogs have a pedigree of some sort, maybe not an AKC pedigree, but a pedigree just the same. Cross breeds do not have less health issues! Reputable/responsible breeders of pure breeds do health screening prior to breeding to reduce the chances of passing along serious health problems. Crossing two breeds, you're just doubling the chances of health issues,. I doubt very much that BYB of mongrels do any health testing other than maybe a general once over by the vet (if that). JMO
28. There is such a thing as "hybrid vigor" which means that crosses often have less health problems than pure-breeds. The idea that mixes have less health problems does have merit to it. (Not always, of course.) I like both. I've seen some gorgeous mixed breeds, but then if you want specific characteristics then naturally the pure-breed is best. I had a cocker that was all champion bred... and she had health problems (piddle puppy when excited) and a bland, aloof personality. Gorgeous dog though. Honestly, I've never seen a prettier cocker. I had a yorkie (adopted as a senior dog from a shelter) who was ill-bred. Probably originally from a puppy mill. He had problems with his skin and needed to be on medication for it. He had a huge overbite, too. But he had an amazing personality! A truly great dog! So pure-breeds can have health problems... but I still like them.
29. I like either! I have a x-breed boxer. My Mother in Law and Sister in Law have pedigrees. All of them are lovely, all as naughty as each other in there own ways. Although it can depend on how you bring your dog up, bad habits and all.
30. that's a good question, i too have a border collie cross, but i also have a doberman and a dalmatian. they are all fantastic dogs, with their own individual personalities, but i can say with my hand on my heart, my border collie cross is certainly "the old dependable". but i love all of them equally, and have absolutely no regrets about owning any of them. xxx
31. like you have both so have no preference medically though has to be the crossbreeds but in temperement has to be the pedigree
