Cross Breeds

Why is everyone on yahoo answers so against mixed breeds?

Everytime I want to ask a question about my maltese poodle mix, the only answers I get are hate comments about the evils of "designer dogs."

Public Comments

  1. I don't think people are against mixed breed dogs, but are against the people who breed them purely for money and the people that support them by paying the outrageous amounts. Mixes used to be accidents, now they are big business.
  2. I've never heard that, and definitely don't feel the same way. A.
  3. I don't know why others would post 'hate' comments. Do you have a question you'd like to ask now? I promise not to be hateful in my answer.
  4. I have a crossbreed and she is the most lovely little thing ever - all my dogs have been crosses! my current pooch is a lab/doberman cross. FREE LOVE!!!
  5. Because there are hundreds of thousands of homeless dogs out there. Some people, myself included get disgusted that so many people buy dogs as fashion accessories. I got a purebred Dalmatian through rescue. Rescue!!!! There are tons of vile back yard breeders out there torturing dogs so people can have designer pets. Now that you have the dog not much can be done so it would be nice if people would help you out. Next time please consider adopting a homeless dog. My Dalmatian is gorgeous and so sweet and dear.
  6. we're against breeders of mutts NOT the animals themselves.
  7. Mixed breed dogs are great dogs! I'm not against mixed breeds at all. What I do have an issue with, as do many folks on YA!, are the unscrupulous breeders who intentionally create a mixed breed dog, give it a fancy breed name, call them "designer dogs" and sell the puppies for outrageous prices.
  8. I could help you. What might your question(s) be?
  9. I'm not the "everyone" you've mentioned. I think mixed breeds can often make the best pets. There are many ignorant people here, so pay no attention to them. What they think & say doesn't really count. ^-^
  10. I love my rottweiler/ german shepherd mix!!.... I got him from the animal shelter. I think people just don't like the unessary breeding of "designer" dogs because it's increasing the pet population. Go to the animal shelter sometime... It's a sad place.
  11. Unfortunately, there are "haters' for everything! You know what is said about opinions! What subject do you know of that does not have its pros & cons? On the other hand, we are privileged to live in the 'Land of the Free' so consider it a right for which people are still sacrificing their lives
  12. More people now are seeing that saving a dog from a shelter is much better than buying and dog. There are so many people breeding dogs and Not nearly enough homes for them all and their mixed offspring and so on down the lines. People just want the breeders to stop killing dogs! I hope your dog was a rescue!!
  13. I don't think anyone is against mixed breeds. What they're against is people paying out the nose for a "designer dog" mixed breed while there are perfectly nice mixed breeds euthanized every day in shelters all over. Of course, if there are people out there who will shell out $1000 bucks for a mixed breed with a fancy name, there will always be disreputable breeders out there willing to perpetuate the pet overpopulation problem to make a fast buck.
  14. We aren't against them - we ARE against people breeding them on purpose,as there are already millions of mutts being killed in shelters everyday, while people are paying big bucks for them at pet stores and backyard breeders. I love mixed breeds, and I own two and have always had them, but mine weren't bred on purpose and they were rescues. If you want a mutt, get it at the pound!!
  15. How many times is this question going to be asked? People on Yahoo Answers are not against mixed breeds- We're against people purposely breeding them for a quick buck, and we're against people giving them the silly names (such as "labradoodle") so they can make more money on an animal that could be adopted from the shelter for $100 or less.
  16. Mixed breed is different than designer dog. A mixed breed is like a mutt - and most dog lovers are all for people who love a mutt. Designer breeds are for pretentious people. They need to stop 'making' dogs and reduce the dog population in total.
  17. Personally I am not against mixed breeds...I own 2 (maybe 3 - not sure about one) of them. What we ARE AGAINST IS PAYING A "SO-CALLED BREEDER" (also known as puppy mill or backyard breeder) for a mixed breed. In that case you are jusr encouraging people who only want to make money off mixed breed pups....THey breed their Bi***** far too often and don't take proper care of them. If the mixed breed comes from a rescue or a shelter (all of mine did), there is no issue. We are just trying to discourage people from buying from thoise who just care about $$$$$$, Hope this helped clarify the situation, BTW - I have a Border Collie mix, a Black lab mix and a beagle (mix??) along with a purebred border collie....I am not s snob....BUT MINE ARE ALL RESCUES (except for the 1 purebred dog) and I WOULD NEVER CALL THEM BY SOME FANCY NAME (ie: Golcen Doodle or Puggle, or Maltipoo, etc....they are just mixes)
  18. In reality many of the "purebred" dogs of today were at some point different types of dogs bred for certain characteristics years ago. So I don't see a problem with someone breeding two different breeds to get a pet with preferable characteristics to the parent dogs. And as for breeding to make money, isn't that what most breeders are doing it for. By the way, I've got purebreds and a peek-a-poo and they are all great.
