Is it true that the Amish abuse animals by having puppy mills and cross breeding zebras and donkeys? ?

- The South African Amish have been illegally cross breeding zebras for decades........
- I don't know about the Amish in your area, but the ones around here do not abuse the animals. Yes, they work them, just like they do themselves. No, they don't cross breed zebras and donkeys here. There isn't a zebra outside of the zoos that I know of. I know many of the Amish families in my area, and they are good, hard working people. They don't have time to waste misjudging others with this type of foolish ideology.
- I have studied and done research on the Amish for my university, and I have never come across any facts as these. Therefore, I do not believe this is true. Someone was trying to humor you with their ignorance.
- hunting deers is an abuse of animals.
- David C, I love your answer! lol No, it is most certainly NOT true in the least. Puppy mills are a type of commercial profiteering, which is not allowed in the Amish culture. The Amish do work thier animals (mules, dogs, horses), but they certainly do not abuse them. I am sure there are a few exceptions, but to abuse a creature of God is again, against the bible and the Amish culture. I'm pretty sure they don't have the means or could get an exotic animal registration form for the zebra in the first place, the Amish pretty much do not breed or crossbreed an animal unless they are intended for work (Mules, horses, field dogs). Having a donkey/zebra hybrid seems frivilous which is also against the Amish culture. Or breeding them for no other reason than to sell them is again profiteering and that is against the Amish culture. They can sell superflous animals; if their field dog (hunting dog) has pups, they can sell the pups they don't need - but it has to be at cost (what it cost for the first vet visit, to feed, and house the pups) or no more than 5% over cost per total litter, profits are to be tithed and distributed throughout the family. If someone in the family dies, the extra property is donated to the remaining family and the church to distribute throughout their community. The Amish are to live modestly, but not meagerly, and never lavishly. It is their way.
- They dont around here.
- It is said that some Amish people are cruel to their horses (overwork them) and run puppy mills.I do not think they are intentionally cruel to their horses. If you or I lived 200 years ago, we too would be depending on horses and using them like the Amish. As for the puppy mills, they are horrible yes, but not all the Amish run puppy mills and most puppy mill owners are not Amish.
