- I agree with that person! Go and adopt a dog from a shelter. What good is a champ bloodline shih tzu gonna do you?
- if you are planning to show then I suggest looking through the shih tzu breed club of america and finding a breeder through them. Odds are you might have to pay more
- Well there aren't any puppies that are well trained that is the job of the owner. If you want an already trained dog then you need to go to a Shih Tzu rescue. They will likely have an adult that is already socialized and potty trained. Regardless you aren't going to get a champion puppy for 500 dollars. Look for the nearest Shih Tzu rescue or shelter in your area and you might find on there.
- Most reputable breeders don't have dogs that cheap. Breeding the correct way is expensive. Check with the breed parent club for a breeder recommendation near you. http://www.shihtzu.org/ Here are some helpful links for identifying good versus bad breeders. (A couple of the links are papillon-specific pages, but the information given about choosing a breeder is pretty universal across all breeds.) - http://www.wonderpuppy.net/breeding.htm - http://www.braylorspapillons.com/breeder.htm - http://www.showpaps.com/papsearch.htm ADD: While you likely won't find a dog with champion parents for $500 (although you do sometimes come across them), it isn't "several thousands" either. I think people are confusing "champion bloodlines" with "show-prospect". With my breed (papillon), I expect to pay $800-$1800 for a pet-quality dog (I buy from reputable breeders, who show their dogs, so I expect champion lines). For a show-prospect, I expect to pay $1200-$3000 (depending on the pedigree they can go for higher, but this is my budget.) <-- That dog you see in my avatar was $1000 from a show-breeder (so yes, she has champion bloodlines). She's mismarked, so was sold as a pet with a spay/neuter contract. Another thing to note: "champion bloodlines" just means there's a champion somewhere in the pedigree. It could be a single dog 4 generations back. "Champion sire / dam" means that the parent(s) are champions. The dog should have multiple champions in it's pedigree to ensure quality breeding. Here's an example of a good pedigree, note that there are champion dogs throughout. http://www.braylorspapillons.com/okarinaped.htm .
- First: Why do you want champ bloodlines? (Not that I'm knocking you for that - obviously, great bloodlines is a better indicator of a very well bred dog). Do you want to show? Second: You won't get a quality puppy at a bargain price... when it comes to pedigree dogs, you really do tend to get what you pay for - so maybe just save up for a little longer to get the best pup you can afford. Third: Well trained? We are talking a puppy here, aren't we? The training is down to you! Fourth: If you're not worried about having a young pup, try contacting your nearest breed rescue - there is bound to be one for shih tzus - your kennel club is the best place to start looking. You may well find the dog of your dreams there.
- You are asking for a "blue moon". Puppies with Champion blood lines will cost you a fortune. Several thousand at the least. $500 will get you a poorly bred pet quality pup. No good solid blood lines there. The pups with have messed up genetics, papered or not. Have you heard the saying, "You get what you pay for."? Well, it applies to puppies too. Find a Show Breeder & see what you can work out with them. They may have pet quality pups but you know the line the came from is good. You will probably have to sign a contract that you will have the pup spayed or neutered since they don't want those bad genetics passed on to a future litter. After all, the line has their name on it.
