- You don't have to wait for them to drop in order to have the neutering done. Consult your vet, but they are neutering dogs earlier and earlier nowadays, and I am sure 4 months is not too soon. I had a dog once who had one undescended testicle (it wasn't ever going to come down), and we still had him neutered -- they just make a little incision and take it out. My current dog was also neutered before his dropped.
- A dog's testicles will usually drop between the ages of 4-6 months. Veterinarians usually suggest waiting until the dog is 6 months old before neutering. This allows time for the testicles to drop naturally so that surgery does not become too invasive. If his testicles have not dropped by 6 months, consult your vet. One or both may be undescended, which can cause serious health problems if left untreated.
- You should wait a couple more months before you neuter him anyway. Give him a bit more time to develop properly. They should drop by the time he is 6 months old. A retained testicle (cryptorchid) should be removed by the time they are 7-9 months old. A dog with a retained testes has a 13 times higher risk for tumors, than dogs with normally decended testes. Good Luck,
- Bryan G, I like the personality of a bulldog. They are so sweet.
