I just got a 5 year old English Bulldog had puppies and is very skinny?
I got her from a breeder that wanted to retire her and she nursed her puppies plus another litter from a dog that would not take care of hers. So a total of 9 puppies. She is very skinny she looks really bad they let the puppies nurce for 9 weeks I got her yeasterday and they where still nursing. What is the best thing I can do to get her healthy and happy again? Thanks

- First, take her along for a check up at your vet, sort out a good worming regimen, and get any vaccinations done that she needs. I would advise feeding her on puppy food until she gains weight - pound for pound it is higher in calories that adult dog food, so she will gain weight without actually having to eat an uncomfortable amount. She will still need gentle exercise to get back into shape, but no major hikes whilst you are trying to get her weight back on. Nine weeks is a long time to nurse pups... particularly such a large litter - so it's no wonder she's 'milked her back off' as it's often termed - but she can regain the weight and look a million dollars again. Be patient, and don't be afraid to ask the vet if you can bring her in every week or so to be weighed - for your peace of mind. Most vets won't charge you just to pop your dog on the scales.
- See the vet for a good physical. Set up appt for her spay. Forget her "past", treat her in a normal way. Thanks for taking her and best of luck.
- That should have been question for her breeder. But You should make an appointment at the vet. good luck.
