Cross Breeds

Do you think breeding differnent types of dogs is bad?

i.e Rottweiler x Staff, or Rottweiler x Bull Mastif, or Bull Mastiff x Staff, or Rottweiler x English Bull Terrier... Isn't it dangerous for these dogs to be crossed? Thanks vet tech.... that was the point I was getting at... :)

  1. How can that be dangerous? Not all Rottweilers, Mastiffs, or especially bull terriers are dangerous. Only a few with bad owners are. Plus, plenty of dogs cross-breed- do you know how many types of mixed breeds there are nowadays?
  2. It is dangerous for *any* mutts to be bred, because millions are dying in shelters every year. As for your examples, those breeds are no more dangerous than any other breeds..... so I'm not sure what you're getting at there.
  3. dont do it, theres enough homeless dogs for one world alreaady. oh, yeah, everyone whos reading this, DO NOT BUY PUPPIES FROM PUPY MILLS ANYMORE. TO REDUCE THE ANIMAL ABUSE IN PUPPY MILLS WE NEED TO STOP BUYING THEM SO THE MILLS WILL GET POOR&STOP DOING IT.
  4. If you're trying to say that these dogs are aggressive just by their breeds. No you are wrong. It's way too often the owners of these dogs that are the problem. I don't think breeding different breeds together is wise unless you have a specific goal in mind, and highly educated on dog breeds and breeding and have lots of money to invest into making this cross breed something besides the designer dog of the day. About 1 out of 100,000 breeders actually fall into the good cross breeder catagory. The other 99,999 are nothing more than money hungry backyard breeders.
  5. breeding these dogs and calling them designer dogs is not only bad its wrong. Its just a way for people to make money. We have no way of knowing what medical problems these dogs will have in the future or what personality issues they might get. I see these mixes all the time and i see the problems new owners may not realize until the cute puppy grows up. a dog is only as dangerous as its owner.
  6. No it's not dangerous...unless the mother is a staff and the father is a Bullmastiff...she might have birth complications with those big headed babies. But the real question is why would you purposely breed a mutt? If you love a breed and want to make it a healthier better breed, breed for that standard. That's common sense, but why make more mutt puppies when they're flooding the shelters and streets...
  7. Of course it is not. Thoses types of dogs are known for their 'dangerious' behaviour but it all depends if their dangerious or not from how theyre raised and treated.
  8. Yes, I do believe it's bad. The reason I believe that is because right now we have millions of excess mutts in shelters just waiting to be killed so why make more? They aren't inatimate objects, they are breathing beings that deserve a good life so while there are dogs being put to sleep for lack of homes, I feel it is unethical to deliberately breed mutts. If there were a home for every dog that was born, then as long as breeding were done properly with health testing, breeding proper size dogs together and such, then I really wouldn't care if people wanted to breed mutts. The only time it is dangerous to cross breed is when the male is too big for the female and carrying the larger pups could put her at risk or if people assume that health testing doesn't need to be done, because it still does even if you are breeding mutts.
  9. NO not at all. It's not what dog breed... it's how the dog is raise that can be dangerous. Just treat them well and love them and they will be great dogs
  10. yes i think its bad, and here is why: go to a city or county animal shelter and see all of the mutts who will not find homes look into all of there eyes and know that you cannot possible take them all and they will be euthanized after 3 days. then think about these people breeding and selling mutts that they call "designer dogs" for big money taking away potential homes for these shelter dogs. if someone wants a mutt they should go to the shelter
  11. Yes I do not agree with breeding mutts, there are enough accidentally breed out there by irresponsible owners.
  12. Deadly - they'll be euthanized, at sometime. I cannot imagine why anyone would purposefully do that.
  13. if going to breed at least make them pure bred, Mutts are being killed every day at shelters, AND if you are going to breed, breed something appealing like a lab or Rottweiler. Which will get good homes and plz don't sell to pet shop, your giving them a live of misury!
  14. Yes very dangerous - for the dogs! Irresponsible, unnecessary & unwise. Unless there is a specific legimate reason to breed a dog to do a specific job for which no other breed is suitable (highly unlikely, given the number of breeds there are!), there is no reason to cross any 2 breeds.
  15. The actual crossing of those breeds is not necessarily dangerous but certainly can be (depends on the dogs). What IS definitely dangerous though, is the greater potential that the puppies will eventually end up in shelters. Mixed breeds fill most shelter space, and bully breeds don't usually get adopted quite as much. If you are thinking about doing this, or know someone who is, please don't!
