  1. Petfinder.com The respective breed rescues for all those kind of dogs - do an online search for ones in your area. Adopt - rescue - don't buy, save a life and give a good home to a homeless dog.
  2. Try googleing the closest breed rescue for the breed your looking for. Many purebreds are in shelters too so check those within driving distance. AKC.org will have info on the corgi http://www.akc.org/breeds/pembroke_welsh_corgi/index.cfm and yorkie http://www.akc.org/breeds/yorkshire_terrier/index.cfm CFA http://www.cfainc.org/breeds/profiles/persian.html for the persian. Please make sure before you get all these pets at once that you have money saved for medical emergencies, it can run into thousands. If you go to a breeder make sure that the parents have had all recomended health testing for the breed, not just 'my vet says they are healthy'. Also be aware that persians need brushed daily, do shed quite a bit and eyes often run and stain because of the face shape. The noses have shorter nasal passages and also often run. Eyes must be cleaned daily minimum or they will stain on light colored cats. Persians are great cats but are not lap cats, they lay near you not so much on you because the coat causes them to overheat when they lay on you. They are a very laid back cat as far as cats go, exotic shorthairs are the same but with a shorter teddy bear type coat if you want the pug faced look without the heavy coat. I raised persians for years and still have my cattery name in cfa and tica but have not had cats in several years. I do think they make great pets. Also if you go the registered pet direction make sure that it is not a paper registry but a reliable one. AKC for dogs CFA for cats are considered the most respectable. If your wanting the cat as a pet with a neuter contract you can get one for about $400 from a good breeder, closer to $1000 for one with breeding rights. I have never owned either dog so I could only guess but prices will vary by pedigree, area, papers, etc. My pom was $800 7 yrs ago (full registration), the dobe pup I got a couple of months ago was $1500. Pedigree counts a lot when it comes to price with breeding rights but you can usually get a well bred healthy *pet* pup from health tested ch parents for the same price as a pet store puppy mill puppy.
  3. Prices vary alot. Go to the following websites and/or email the secretaries of the following national breed clubs. 4. For dogs, go on www.epupz.com. You can change nationalities specific to whatever country you live in, and lots of breeders put their puppies up for sale on it, so you should be able to compare prices. For cats, try www.breedersonline.com. Good Luck! From Beccy xx
  5. If you're buying a dog, chances are it's a puppymill or backyard breeder (BYB.) Legit breeders do not need to advertise and will never post prices on their websites (the websites are designed to showcase, not sell.) Try a rescue! Believe it or not, we don't just get old, sick or unsocialized pets. I personally adopted a 7 mo old basset puppy from a rescue whose father and grandfather are registered show dogs (and champions, no less.) Murphy was just not show quality (goofy as heck!) My rescue doesn't usually get puppies, but when we DID get a 9 week old one in, it took weeks to find her a home as nobody had applied because they didn't think rescues got puppies. We've taken in dogs whose owners died, moved and didn't take them, etc.. Petstore puppies are from puppymills and dog brokers; people breeding for the betterment of the breed and with the dog's health in mind do not sell on the Internet or in petstores, and usually show their dogs. A well-bred animal will cost you more upfront but less over his lifetime in vet costs because genetic faults and problems have been bred out of him. A petstore puppy will cost you a lot up front and a lot later. Rescues--who completely vet dogs/cats and socialize them before adopting them out--are a great source of purebred animals. There are rescues for every breed out there.
  6. don't buy pets from a pet store, pet stores often buy from "puppy factories" those are places that breed the mothers until they are not strong enough, or no longer able to give birth anymore. (sometimes even until they get sick or die) go to your local SPCA or animal shelter/pound. or check out www.petfinder.com try to adopt or only buy from a licensed breeder.
