What types of dogs are hypoallergenic?
I am interested in buying a dog that will not bother my allergies.

- NONE!!! Yes poodles do shed less hair but everything sheds even you. Its a gimmick but there are other things you can do. You can use special shmpoos on a dog, take meds. I have had several people adopt that were allergic to short hair dogs and not long haired?? That was confusing but it did start to make sense. The skin is what cause the allergies and with the long hair the dead skin flakes stay under the hair and not come directly to the surface.
- First you need to find out if you are allergic to dander or saliva!! No dog is 100% hypo-allergenic but the breeds with human like hair are the least likely to irritate allergies....Bichon Frise and Poodle are just two of those in that category.
- Bedlington terrier's are ideal for this. They do not shed any hair at all. I have one myself :) Poodle's are also good for this, but I prefer Bedlington's as a breed. P.S. im not quite sure about what Golden Mantella has said, i have had 2 bedlington terriers (the 1st was a rescue) and they both had/have lovely temperaments. They are renound for being the most laid back of the terrier group. I think she perhaps has had one bad experience, which can happen with any dog/breed at all.
- Take a look here, it gives a list :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypoallergenic_dog_breeds
- Bischon - look like a poddle with a big face - they are adorable and have lots of energy. Loving dogs.
- We have a Portuguese Water Dog and it is hypoallergenic. It has hair, not fur and does not shed. It was used by Portuguese Fisherman to swim between boats and is very easy to train. The dog is very loyal and great with kids.
- Get a dog with hair, not fur. Exmaple: Yorkshire Terrier
- soft-coated wheatens, they are hypoallergenic, bearly shed, and are like little fluffy bear cubs :)
- No dog is hypoallergenic, though some breeds shed less than others. As said before, you might be allergic to the saliva, not hair. I have a Bedlington terrier, who makes no mess at all, but all dogs lose hair some way, and the Bedlington's coat requires you brush out the shed hair. The only downside to a bedlington is the temperament, which is very sweet, but can also be vicious. NEVER let a Bedlington taste blood, because after that, they will attack anything to get more. The dog will be gone. Other than that, they are very sweet, smart, if a bit stubborn, and reasonable.
