what are the best types of dogs for a medium sized apartment?

i dont want one of those small dogs cause they just seem too fragile. i was leaning more towards bulldogs? oh by the way i have stairs only one flight though

1. What about a Jack Russell? Or some kind of mix? I have a chihuahua/ jack mix and hes not fragile at all. He weighs 17 lbs and is perfect size. I live in an apartment as well.
2. Do some research on the Boston Terrier, they have an appearance sort of like a bulldog but not NEARLY the health problems bulldogs have. I love mine!
3. i would recomened scottish terriers. they are midsized dogs and well built. they wouldn't be able to tear up a human, but they are extremly alert and will bark if an unfamiliar human is nearby. They tend to be able to pick up pretty well on emotions too, my scotty knows when to cuddle and wen to steer clear. I would actully remoned any terrier. they tend to be strong, protective and easy to care for.

6. beagles, bulldogs, corgies, fox hounds, italian greyhounds, and spaniels would be good. they r medium-sized dogs. but if u get a greyhound, walk it often!!!! medium sized dogs would be best becuz if u got a bid dog then it would tear the place apart. try to stay away from medium-sized dogs with a lot of energy bcuz it would take away all your time trying to keep the dog satisfied. but if u want my opinion, i would reccomend the beagle or the foxhound bcuz they r both so very loveable!!!!!!!!!!
