Which is the best dog breed to cross an American Cocker Spaniel with.?
If you do mention a Dog breed, would appreciate the reason(s) why you think an American Cocker Spaniel should be crossed with that particular breed. Keeping in mind the objective it’s to create an offspring that will take the best of both breeds. Thank you for you time

- NONE
- Poodle
- a poodle cuz then it would be cockapoo
- go to the shelter and save a mixed breed's life, instead of creating more to be killed.
- NONE! Purposely breeding mixed breed dogs makes you an irresponsible breeder and only adds to the unwanted animals in the shelters!
- toy collie pretty and good coat and about the same size
- Good Question.. I think that the American Cocker Spaniel should be crossed with.. An American Cocker Spaniel.. The reason being.. They are the same breed, and when breeding dogs, it makes no sense to breed one breed to another.. You end up with a bunch of mutts that no one wants.. You have no consistency in your litter.. WHen your puppy buyers ask you what the dogs will look like, or act like, what to expect temperament wise.. You will not have any answers at all...
- Mixing breeds is creating a mutt !!! no matter what breed it is !!! don't do it !
- The only answer is another American Cocker Spaniel. Why on earth would anyone want to create a mongrel ? If you keep the breed pure at least you know what you will get.Otherwise visit the dog home, it is full of crossbreeds that no-one wants.
- American Cocker. Keep the blood clean. Never mix on purpose.
- Why would you think that the best and not the worst of both breeds will show up? I feel sorry for some puggles... a pug's poor muzzle and breathing issues combined with a beagle's need to go go go hunt all day can lead to a dead dog... add in the pug's protruding eye issues and a propensity for a beagle to dash through underbrush and again you have problems. So you add a cocker's long soft coat to a poodle's wirey one and you have an ungroomable mess that MUST be clipped. Poor dogs.. there are plenty of mutts at the pound. Don't create more.
- None...breeding of any kind is for the betterment of the breed to enhance good qualities..all you're doing is making mutts. And al you're doing as an inexperienced breeder is being a backyard breeder and jeopardizing the lives of the dogs and possible puppies. There are plenty of unwanted dogs in shelters and rescue groups, don't add to them.
- Please don't bring any more unwanted mixed or purebred dogs into the world. There are now 10's of thousands of unwanted dogs. Mixed breeds are more apt to be homeless. Even purebred papered dogs are dumped on the streets every day. There is no guarantee that even a papered dog will get a responsible forever home. There are thousands of dogs put down each and every day in the US. These are the lucky ones. The unlucky ones are left in the streets hungry, thirsty, diseased, injured, tortured, and scarred for life. There will soon be a law passed to heavily fine or imprison anyone that has a dog over 4 months left unaltered. The exceptions are the reputable registered breeders. These people breed only highly valued pedigreed bloodlines to better a breed. It's unfortunate we have to result to these laws, but it's the owners that are the problem not the dogs.
- There are alot of biased people commenting. But i wanted to say, there are so many mixes with the cocker, just to mention a few. corkie, foxker,cocka-ton,cockinese, cotralian, comfort retriver, spanador, cock A-mo, docker, cockalier, chin-ocker, schnocker, cockapoo. If you are going to mix, do research on each specific breed to help decide which you think would work the best. I have and raise pom/maltese and love the mix, Pomanese.
- prolly a poodle for real there are more poodle hybrids than any other check it out here http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/poodlemix.htm
