- When it comes to the house yes, they can be the lazyiest of all dogs, but given the chance they will run like heck. So if your dog loves to run straight for a while then yes..good match and even walks are really good for dogs Id suggest a dog park for the greyhound because they love to chase things and be chased by their friends.
- In the house, sighthounds (greyhounds, whippets, etc) are notoriously quiet dogs who nap alot. Given a buddy to play with, I'd be willing to bet a greyhound would be quite lively. They definitely have the energy to keep up with another dog, but seem to only use it in the proper situations, which is nice. I'd just be careful. If your setter is a rough player, you'd better watch out with the thin skin and delicate legs on a Greyhound. I think it's wonderful you're considering adopting a retired racer, it's a good way to go. Good luck!
- no all they really need is a 30min to hour walk daily, but they are pretty much coach potato's, i have owned them all my life. And adopting a retired racer is not a good idea for your situation, after they are retired they need a quiet easy going house where they can relax. Usually retired racers are not recomended to homes with young dogs/small dogs as greyhounds have the natural instinct to kill a small dog. I would recomend another setter or a springer spaniel, poodle, retreiver, or even a jack russel
- Adopting a racing greyhound can be one of the most beautiful and compassionate things you could ever do. You'd truely be giving that dog a chance at a better life. Yes, greyhounds are true couch potatoes, but like all dogs they do need exercise and physical/mental stimuli. Your current dogs are still puppies, they have time to grow and develop. Waiting until they are older could show what their true personalities. Or you could do a meet & greet
- I had a retied grey once, and yes- he was a huge couch potato, in the house. outside was another matter entirely. They are high energy dogs and could do well with your dogs, but remember they have been racing their whole lives and most are not familiar with things that your dogs take for granted. My Demon barked at the mail box, and the street lamps when they came on, and many other things that my other dog totally ignored. And retired racers also sometimes come with health issues.
- if you let the Grey & setter both in the yard the grey will burn 2,000 calories in the first 2 minutes & leave the setter dizzy. then he'll want to flop while the setter is still going. My whippets HATE my sis Mals because they don't STOP.
- A greyhound would be the wrong choice for this situation. Greyhounds like to run but only short sprints and then they will sleep for the next 3 days. They are couch potatoes and will always be couch potatoes. I own two and I've fostered many so I know what I'm talking about. A greyhound would be no match for a high strung setter and a pug puppy.
