- It's a pretty heated topic here right now. I'm for responsible breeding and find there is abuse whether a person crosses breeds or has purebreds. I also see mixed breeds that are beautiful animals (and I don't just mean beautiful to look at either) and make great pets/animal companions, fur kids or whatever a person chooses to call them. I own three rescue dogs. Two are certifiably Muttalicious, and one is a possible purebred APBT that was a throw away at 2 1/2 wks. old. I wouldn't trade a one of them or sell a one of them for a billion dollars. Two were spayed by the shelters that took them in and the 2 1/2 yr old we had spayed after six mos. old. That was by choice.
- I prefer mutts. Purebreds just seem kinda crazy to me :p I can't really explain it. .
- Mix breeds because you get the most unpredictable cuties. Plus they don't have as many health problems as the pure bred dogs and cats due to the variety in genes. I like purebred animals too, but honestly a purebred golden retriever looks very similar to another golden retriever.
- It really doesnt matter. Animals are animals and I love them all!! No matter ir you spend $1000 on a pedigree, or simply rescue a puppy from the streets, odds are that if you treat them kindly, you play with them, and you love them, they will love you back and be your companion for life! That is what counts in an animal! Not there bloodlines!
- This is a very sensitive topic for me! Honestly...People shouldn't be set on choosing between the two. I can't stand it when some say " Always get a AKC/pure breed" Don't love your pet for what their worth...Love them for everything else!
- I prefer mix breeds. I have had a few in my day and all of them have been good dogs.On the other half i had 2 pure breed Chocolate Labrador Retrivers "Beatiful Dogs" and they were very good behaved.
- We've always gotten our animals from the pound. Except for my mom's last dog she wanted a pure Golden retriever puppy and did some research to find a responsible breeder and got one. We did also at one time have a pure border collie but he was given to my mom when she was a teenager not sure where he came from. I think it's okay if someone wants a pure bred so long as they make sure they are getting it from a reputable breeder. But I absolutely love my mutt dog from the pound too.
- Mutts...in both dogs & cats. I would never buy from a breeder. Not when who knows how many thousands of healthy & friendly animals are put down in overcrowded shelters every week. Also though...don't purebreds get that way through inbreeding? And can't they have wierd genetic issues because of that?
- I love them all but, you will find out that the mixed breeds for some reason usually live a much longer life than a pure bred. Most pure breeds have some sort of family genes that causes broken bones, cancers, etc. than a mix breed. The mix breeds seem to be more immune to disease, etc. But, they are all great!
- It doesn't matter. I think cats and dogs are more like us than we think. All they want is to love and be loved. I think they react to how they are treated.
- I have 4 Bengals and a Siamese. I owned 1 domestic and it viciously attacked my sleeping god daughter. I will never own another mixed breed animal again after that. With purebreds, you know what you are getting and what breeds are mixed in (Only one) you can predict heath issues that may occur because you know family history of the cat. Some breeds are more aggressive than others and like dogs (say pitt bull and Rott) should not be bred together.
- I don't really have a preference as I like all cats and do love the 'common' moggy. But I do love certain breeds (I own a Somali) and would not like to see them become extinct, so I am for responsible breeding of pure bred cats. I don't approve of cross breeding however, if by that you mean creating a new breed from 2 existing breeds. I think there are enough breeds out there so no need to create any more now. When a new breed is created there are lots of cats that don't meet the breed standard on the way, and it isn't always easy to find pet homes for them all.
- I have 2 pedgree dogs and 3 cats and 1 dog that are cross breed!Crosses are a lot stronger than pedigrees but I do like both!
- Well my Kitty is a purebred Siamese (I don't have her papers tho) and my pup is a collie/terrier mix. They are both perfect in their own ways. My pup was the result of an accidental breeding between a neighbors dogs. But very cute. As a puppy (up to 4 months) she looked like a miniature St. Bernard. Now she's looking more like a collie but with terrier (brown and white) markings. My kitty shows the traditional Siamese traits and is so loving and affecionate. I've had several "purebred" Mutts in my time and a few Purebreds. There really is no difference to me. Oh and purposely cross breeding is just bad breeding manners. If you want a Mutt the shelters are full of them.
