Cross Breeds

How likey is it for snakes to cross breed?

i know somone that got bit by a snake and he believes it was a rattle snake because of the sound, but it had a yellow tint to it according to him. Is there a high chance of two snakes cross breeding?

  1. He believes its a rattle snake because of the sound. What about the swelling up and extreme pain of the bitten body part or the paralysis and anti blood clotting agents in the venom. The hours in hospital and the numerous viles of specific anti-venom he needed. NO,well i dont think it was a rattle snake then.If it was he would have no doubts and not just "believe" it was a rattler. Alot of the different kinds of rattlers have yellow in their patterning anyway. this could have been any one of a numerouse amount of snakes. Snakes will only cross breed with their own sub order species so diamonbacks with diamondbacks and southern pacifics with southern pacifics etc etc.
  2. It's extremely rare for snakes to cross breed. There are only certain types that can be cross-bred and that usually happens by breeders in captivity (though I'm sure it can happen in the wild as well). What most likely happened to the person you know is that the snake used a fairly common trick to make them think it was a rattlesnake. A lot of non-venomous snakes will stick their tails under leaves or brush and then move it extremely quickly to make the rattling sound. If that doesn't work to scare off what they see as a predator, they may bite, but of course there is no venom.
