- Yes! They have all their adult teeth by 6 months old. Golden's are chewers by nature you need to get her some good chew toys to help her to satisfy her need to chew. A good nyla bone will usually do the trick or even a good Kong if your dog like them. I have 3 Goldens here of various ages and all of them still like to chew on their Nyla bones. Just make sure you get one that is big enough for her age and chewing ability. They allso make special toys and bones for agressive chewers. Look for these too.
- Believe it or not, gender plays a significant role in teething. If you had gotten a male, he would be close to ending his teething, but females teeth about 2-3 weeks behind the males. The last teeth to go are the canines. Check her mouth to see if they are loose, and that will give you an idea. Also, watch for "retained" teeth - they should be pulled by your vet, as they can ruin the way the teeth come in. (No anesthesia usually required, just knowledge as to what direction to pull in). Carrots (with tops on) are a favorite teething tool of mine. Cheap, and cool (refrigerate them) and the bits that are left can be vacuumed up readily, plus the chlorophyll freshens breath.
- *NOT* breed specific! Or gender related!!!! ALL pups change teeth around 4-5 months.
- She will probably chew forever. Its a dog thing. That being said I read somewhere that dogs are completely finished "teething" at around 2 years. At first that seemed kind of a long time. Then I thought back to the dogs I've had and realized that each one that had chewing issues usually settled down at about that time. They still chewed but it finally became "safe" to forget to put the shoes away. I also have a female golden. She is just over 18 months old. She has been an almost obsessive chewer. We have noticed that in the last few months she is slowing down. It hasn't stopped but it is not as bad as it was. Time and an abundance of appropriate things to chew will help in the mean time. Good luck.
- AT about 4 months they start losing baby teeth adn bring in the adult teeth... They stil have need to chew for quite a while. In fact my 1.5 golden just chewed up a glove (after opening the closet door). ARGGGGGG They will have need to chew for quite a while.
