My dog ate about 2 pounds of choclate, what do I do?

He weighs between 60 and 70 pounds, is a black lab and border collie mix, and my miniature dachsund might have consumed part of the chocolate as well. It was milk chocolate from valentines day, 4 of those heart shaped boxes. He's been going to the door to go to the bathroom atleast once every ten minutes. Sometimes he'll come in from the bathroom and get a drink, then go back to the door. He's also running around and eating the snow. He's kindof timid around us, probably because he's scared of punisment, and he's shaking terribly. We really don't have money for the vet, sinc this month has been pretty tight. What should I do? Oh, he also has a pretty strong stomach He's eaten a pack of tylenol before and been fine. But he seems very sick this time. Thanks for the answers so far, but many are un-needed : I know chocolate is harmful to dogs, why do you think I'm posting this? As for going outside, i watch him and he usually just stands in the snow. He doesn't have a bowel movement, pee, or vomit. He sits there. So maybe he just has an upset stomach? Thank you all very much. My dog ended up being fine, he was just extremely hyper. Always wanted to go outside and play fetch. I fed him ice alot which seemed to settle him down, althoug hhe was at the door most of the night. But he went to normal by maybe 2 am. Thanks to everyone!

  1. chocolates are poisonous to dogs !!! try flush the chocolates out ? give him loads of his favourite drink ?
  2. Call poison control for advice and symptoms to watch for. Its free.
  3. Call the vet and see if you can pay in small portions plus interest or something like that; it seems as if he is really sick.
  4. I'd call the vet for advise some are nice and give out advice some dont. But like the other person said chocolate is poisonous! He needs some medical attention.
  5. milk, try to get him to vomit if he just ate it. if it has been awhile stay on this routine, he will work it out, it is usually smaller dogs that have trouble with choc.
  6. omggg i lost my dog that ate one pund yours is going to die sorry petco has a great funeral program
  7. White chocolate: 200 ounces per pound of body weight. It takes 250 pounds of white chocolate to cause signs of poisoning in a 20-pound dog, 125 pounds for a 10-pound dog. Milk chocolate: 1 ounce per pound of body weight. Approximately one pound of milk chocolate is poisonous to a 20-pound dog; one-half pound for a 10-pound dog. The average chocolate bar contains 2 to 3 ounces of milk chocolate. It would take 2-3 candy bars to poison a 10 pound dog. Semi-sweet chocolate has a similar toxic level. Sweet cocoa: 0.3 ounces per pound of body weight. One-third of a pound of sweet cocoa is toxic to a 20-pound dog; 1/6 pound for a 10-pound dog. Baking chocolate: 0.1 ounce per pound body weight. Two one-ounce squares of bakers' chocolate is toxic to a 20-pound dog; one ounce for a 10-pound dog.
  8. Pour peroxide down the dogs throat to induce vomiting. Then get on the phone with a vet.
  9. Take him to the Doc!!!!! Hurry!!!
  10. try and gag him put your finger down his throat to make him barf it up
  11. Vet time! Chocolate is poisonous to dogs! You may have left it for too late, but I would really take the dog to the vet, or at least the pound. If you are going to try and do it yourself, look for a good website, give him plenty of water, and make him as comfortable as you can. IIRC, chocolate causes kidney failure in dogs, which might be why he's drinking and peeing so much. AND LOCK UP THE CHOCOLATES NOW! Good luck -- hope he pulls through. Edit: Glad to hear he's OK. (-:, Now, hide the green beer!!
  12. NEVER GIVE CHOCLATE TO A DOG
  13. First: call your local emergency veterinarian. They'll be the best equipped to help you and will probably ask you to bring your dog in for monitoring. Second: If you INSIST on taking action yourself, call The Animal Poison Hotline (888-232-8870). It's toll free and it could save your dog's life a lot faster than the internet.
  14. If he truly ate that much chocolate he will likely die unless you get him to a vet and have his stomach pumped - this is not funny. His actions indicate that his system is in hyperdrive from the toxic effects of the chocolate - you are going to let him die??? Get him to a vet now!!!! Your miniature dachshund does not have the weight to eat more than a tiny bit of chocolate without getting poisoned - he needs to get to a vet too. What on earth are you waiting for? The dogs can't wait until you have the money - they need help now.
  15. If you can somehow induce vomiting in the dog within 2 hours of it having ingested the chocolate, you may just be ok. I'm including links to a couple of informative websites for you! Good luck!
