What are some good doggie snow boots?

I'm taking my dog to the snow in 2 weeks and we want to walk around with him on the trails but there's snow everywhere and I want to make sure his paws are safe and warm. Has anyone used any dog snow booties? If so, how did they work out? Which ones did you get and where can I get some? BTW: I always hear about some salt in the snow that's bad for dogs? What does this mean? What's up with salt, snow, and dogs?

  1. Don't dress your dog up like he is a human. What if hes looking for a babe and she sees him with boots on? You know what that will do to his ego
  2. I live in Misawa, Japan. You want to talk about snow!? Many people walk their pets...no one has booties on their dogs. This may end up being more trouble than it's worth...
  3. I can tell you one thing...Your dog will most likely hate wearing them and walk funny. We tried putting boots on my dog and she usually ends up kicking them off (no matter how tight they are on) But it is kinda funny to watch..

  5. we have dog boots for our dog and wouldn't have it any other way. We have the ones called "Muttluks" They work great and have "socks" above the boot part and the velcro secures them very well. I ordered mine from Amazon. Do a web search, too, for "muttluks" b/c I think they have their own website. Download and use the sizing chart, as we ordered 2 sizes above the recommended size for our dog b/c he's bigger than normal, and based on the sizing chart, they fit perfectly. We use them when we walk him in the winter precisely because of the salt that the road crews put on the road. I'm not sure that it's exactly bad for the dog, but when we walk him in the salted roads without the boots, I think the salt irritates the skin/paws and he ends up licking his paws for a while after the walk. It is also good when we want to have the dog in the snow for a long period so we don't have to worry about them getting too cold. Oh yeah, and the dog will walk funny when you first get them and put them on, but that is quickly remedied by starting the walk immediately, as after about 4 steps, he forgets he has them. It is also useful to get the dog conditioned to them when he/she is young, but otherwise you can praise the dog if its older and associate the boots with treats, etc.
