Can someone tell me the name of the movie...?

It's an older movie and I believe we had to watch it in late elementary school. I don't recall much, but I know it was based around two groups of kids having a real snowball war. There was a dog in it too that dies when the snow fort collapses and buries it. I cannot remember the name of it and it's driving me mad. Does it sound familiar to anyone?
