Cross Breeds

Have U seen the Disney Movie "Snow Buddies" American Humane review?

http://www.ahafilm.info/movies/mr.phtml?fid=7893 Please read before buying the movie. All the rescues I know are already gearing up for the influx of dogs that will result 12-18 mos. from now. The parents take their children to the movie and then buy the "cute, smart, little puppy" that junior just has to have. Low and behold they don't train themselves, knock the kids down playing too rough, eat the couch and the miniblinds, etc. The parents then decide that is was just a bad dog because they certainly aren't responsible for this ill mannered creature (the dog nor the angel child) that they paid soooo much money to the BYB for without educating themselves first. Anyone else feel the frustration? I guess we can just be glad there are no elephants in the pet store/classified!

  1. if you don't have anything nice to say about dogs and movies then dont say anything at all
  2. AMEN!!! I am SOOO sick of Disney adding to the problems the dog world already has! Did they not learn from 101 Dalmations?? Why are they so stupid as to continue putting out these puppy films? I wish the SPCA would sue them for the problems they cause with these films... it's disgusting and I would never even watch that film just out of principle!
  3. This happens every time a breed of dog becomes famous - Collies and German Shepherds were popular in the 1960"s (Lassie and Rin Tin Tin), and more recently Dalmatians (101 Dalmatians), Golden Retrievers (Air Bud) and Siberian Huskies (Eight Below). Dalmatians and Huskies are extremely hard breeds to train properly - you need to be devoted and have a lot of patience as they are very strong-willed breeds. These movies/ shows should come with an explanation or behind the scenes look at how difficult it is to train these animals. In fact, as I watched "Eight Below", I kept thinking how much better it would be to be watching a documentary of how the Huskies were trained!
  4. Yeah, can't wait for that one. From the look of your avatar, you feel my pain.:) My kennel was contacted to supply puppies for this movie -- they wanted the puppies at 5 weeks, so that the trainers would have time to work with them before they got out of the "cute", filmable stage. Like many responsible breeders who were contacted, we declined (just like we declined "Snow Dogs" and "8 Below"). Too bad they can always find someone who will take them up on their offer of fame and, more importantly, fortune. Disney is the bane of the purebred dog's existence. ADD: WIZZY - I see your point...but you would not believe how many black and white Siberians named "Demon" we've gotten into rescue since "Snow Dogs" came out.
  5. idk but im getting one next week
  6. I agree that the children have to be trained as well.
  7. I understand what you are saying...and I REALLY would not want them to make a movie with Newfs.....BUT, this is like the third or fourth movie in this series. "Air Buddies" is a favorite of my daughters. It has been out quite a while. I know all too well (from years working in a shelter) what breeds face after movies and the like make them "popular", but should be eliminate ALL movies based on dogs and cats for that reason????? If people cannot figure out that this is NOT how the REAL WORLD is, there is not much we can do. These people are just as likely to get a dog because they saw one at the park that was "so cute", or that Brittney Spears has, or that they saw on the news, or that was in the pet store. These people are the defination of impluse buyers and would NEVER put any more thought into getting a dog than that. Did all the rescues get a huge influx in after "Air Buddies"??? Loki: I would totally believe it!!!! We have seen at least three and we are a fairly small rescue. I have also seen WAY to many Pongo's too!!!!!! Just advocating for a little more PERSONAL responsibility.....not that it is currently the PC thing to expect from people!!!!!!! We even saw many more ferrets after "Along Came Polly". Nothing is safe from the dolts.
