What exotic animals are you allowed to own legally?

I know it's not good to own wild animals, but I want to know what wild animals are legal to own just out of curiosity. So please don't give me comments like "NONE! IT'S BADDDD!" of course, know someone will be immature and say that just because I said not to. I know you can own monkeys too... Also, if you could have any animal, even if it's not legal to own, what would it be? I'd want a sperm whale, dingo, emu, fox, or a fairy penguin.

1. I believe it is legal to own a wolf if you get the proper paperwork, and are approved to do so.
2. it varies by state, and whether you live in the city or county so you will have to look up your state ordinances and then look up the city or county ones depending on where you live.
3. If it is classified as 'exotic' , then you need a license in most cities. But, the list of animals varies depending on the place you live. For instance, my friend owned a lynx at one point in time. Just across the state line, this would have been illegal. Check with your city. Start by calling Animal Control, and they can direct you to the department that licenses exotic pets.
4. depends on where you live. Ferrets are legal in most states without a permit.. but are illegal in CA. I know hedgehogs are legal here in OH, but in PA they are illegal. Many exotics do not make good pets. Yes, some places you are allowed monkies, but that doesnt mean you should get one.
5. I think you need to call the Police Station or Animal Control they can help. I want a pet pig or maybe a seal.

7. It depends on the state. Each state has their own laws regaurding exotics. I've done a lot of research on the subject, because I own a hedgehog, which is legal here in Virgina, but in many other states, like Vermont (where I used to live) it is not.
