Greyhound Lovers to the rescue!!!?
Are there any of you in the Wichita Ks area willing to help? The track there is closing Oct 6 and the dogs need your help! Contact Race the Wind or GPA to see how you can help. Temp foster homes needed bad!!!! http://www.racethewind.org/ http://www.greyhoundpets.org/ I'm not really sure how to take Laura's remark. I wasn't "SPAMMING" or trying to sell anthing or promote myself or business. I am trying to let greyhound lovers in the area know that there will be several hundred dogs needing homes and see if there is anything they could do to help. If that constitutes spam to anyone, I'm sorry. But I will do anything legal I can to try to help in tis incident, a racetrack that is home to aprox 720 dogs is closing. Statistically only about 200 will go on to race elsewhere as Wichita is a lower quality race track and the end of the line for many racing careers. I don't work for GPA or Race the Wind or any organized 501 3C charity. I go to farms and get dogs that would otherwise be disposed of and find them homes through word of mouth. I do however feel that in a time of crisis such as this anyone who cares can make a difference.

- Bless you. I hope you find lots of takers because you're doing good work.
- What are the email addresses of the contacts? Please email me this info as well as your email address and I'll forward it to rescue's "Spam Queen" __________ We affectionately refer to a nationwide crossposter for rescues as The Spam Queen. She belongs to 100's of groups and has an extensive email list. I would need your email however in order to ask her to "spam" it far and wide, as I am not familiar with the situation. ___________ EDIT - Update: Subject: From the Chairman of the Board of Race The Wind There is no concern at all about those greys that will be turned to adoption after the last day of racing, October 6, 2007. First of all, the number will more than likely be in the range of 150 and Race the Wind Greyhound Adoption, Inc., occupants of the adoption kennel at the track, will remain on board DAILY until the last dog is adopted. The State of Kansas is very PRO ADOPTION and has already instituted a very involved tracking system so that every greyhound will ultimately have a permanent home. Some greys will go back to their owners, some greys will be sent to other tracks, but EVERY grey is protected. The Kansas State Vet in charge of the hounds at the track is personally monitoring EVERY dog and there will be a follow up after the dog has had an opportunity to reach its destination. God help the person who fools with this plan and thinks they will get by with it. There is NO need for finding foster homes for these greys. We are finding PERMANENT homes for them no matter how long it takes. Further, Race the Wind Greyhound Adoption, Inc. will continue to be alive and well and in the business of finding permanent homes for Kansas greys. In addition, there WILL be a Greyhound America 2008 Gathering in Abilene, Kansas! Carolea Dick, Chairman of the Board Race the Wind
- Keep posting your question with more contact information. Good luck helping the dogs.
- Our local greyhound rescue group is regap.com. They may be able to take some. They rescue from Dairyland Park in Wisconsin. There is also a Florida group that is huge-I don't remember the name of the group, but they have quite a few volunteers. Hope this helps!
- These Dogs ALWAYS need help Laura!!! GPA will never admit all the hounds put to death. You sign a contract claiming to be "neutral" which really means look the other way & act like it never happens. Thousands of racing dogs are killed in the USA. The abuse is not just in other countries like Spain, Mexico, England & Ireland. It happens in your own backyard. How do you think these poor dogs who were "rescued" by GPA from Juarez got there in the 1st place!!! These tracks dump a ton of older dogs & dogs used for breeding that no one hardly ever what's to take. Start educating yourself. Greyhound Protection League Greyhound Network news
