Doesanyone know where i can get a greyhound puppy from ?

I live in the north east (England) and i want a grey hound puppy for a pet and not racing. All of the ones ive seen advertised are priced very high as they are for racing at the dog tracks and not pets.iv heard that there are a lot of puppies killed as they are not perfect for racing but dont know how to get in touch with anyone who might be willing to give me one of the puppies that are unsuitable for racing.

  1. I don't know about the UK, but where I live, you can usually get free (or virtually free -- usually you just pay a donation for the shelter) young Greyhounds that were once racers but lost so they are no longer needed or used.
  2. Find a greyhound kennel and ask them if they have puppies available. Not likely since they're not even trained for racing until they're 1 year old. You might also try going to the track and you may change your mind about a puppy and rescue a dog from the track. Hope you find one - greyhounds are wonderful companions!
  3. go to petfinder.com....this is a site for rescue groups....just put in your Zip code, and be AMAZED at how many choices you have !!.... i adopted a Great Pyrenees mix from them, and my dog Sylvester is great !!.... check it out....try it....do a good deed....adopt a dog !!!.... good luck in your search, for a greyhound puppy or dog !!! i have heard that they make wonder full pets, and are great companions !!!!
  4. In the US unwanted puppies go to adoption groups and are usually snatched up very quickly. Try contacting local adoption groups in your area and tell them what you are looking for. They may get pups in occassionally also but probably have a waiting list of people who want them. If you fill out an application and get pre-approval with the group they can put you on the waiting list.
  5. This story has tons of information about adopting greyhounds, including links to adopting organizations worldwide. And yes, they do adopt puppies not fast enough to race. Good luck -- greyhounds are wonderful pets! http://www.charityguide.org/volunteer/fewhours/greyhound-rescue.htm
