Dog Scootering.?
Has anyone heard of the 'sport' and if you have what are your thoughts? Those of you who haven't here is a link to get a brief idea from. Anyone who trains/races sled dogs I would really appreciate your thoughts in particular. http://www.dogscooter.com/HowToTrainScooter.htm Apparently you've never seen working sled dogs. Most of the ones that I've seen, met or hitched a ride with thought they were in trouble if they WEREN'T pulling. Quit being ignorant please. For the Akita, they actually use two styles of this, one is sled-dog style with the dogs in front, and the other places the dog next to the rear wheel with a harness and turns the scooter into rear wheel drive. I'll find the link. Here is the 'rear-wheel' drive link: http://www.dogpoweredscooter.com/

- Nope, ain't heard of it but hey... how about you anda few of your buddies pull me around on a sled in the snow. Come on, that's no sport, it's cruelty ! A sport is something you do, not the dogs... they could care less about the trophy you want. If you really want to get from point A to B then walk yourself there.
- Dude, I want a scooter now for Xmas! My Akita has way more energy then I do some days, so that would be a great way to tire him out :)
- I have actually seen this as one of our neighbors trains sled dogs that are used for racing in Alaska and also for deep woods rescue training. To the person who is saying that this is cruel, you need to do a bit more research into sled dogs, they absolutely love to run and pull sleds behind them. The people that I know that have these dogs treat them as well or even better than a lot of people treat their fellow human beings. Many sled dog teams have been used to take survivors safely away from plane crash sites and other types of accidents. Thanks for the information, I am sure that many people will find it educational and interesting. Merry Christmas.
- Working dogs usually when treated well, are in better shape than the pooches sitting on the couch. In fact in the natural culture of a dog, the size of a retriever, actually needs 9 hours exercise a day. In our human society, they are lucky to get 1 hour in the woods or the open fields. Exercising a dog next to a bike is an awesome way to train a dog, but one obviously needs to be skilled in this activity. The dogs usually love it and it really provides all the exercise they need. A Scooter is a novelty to me, but they do not usually go that fast, so I see no harm in that. Dogs enjoy mental challenges and physical exercise. Keeps them alert and full of beans!!! They need a very good diet though, if this is a regular kind of activity.
