Why do dogs have racing fits?
By racing fit I mean short lasted surges of energy dogs occasionally get, sending them seemingly mindlessly racing back and forth in their yards (or living room couch to couch in my small dog's case this morning) really fast. Usually triggered by the introduction of something exciting. I mean, I can't think of any human action similar to this.

- We do it too just not as outwardly as they do :) think about getting a job promotion or a new car for a present? they just like to show you they are excited and need to show it to the world :) plus their energy lvl is probably through the roof compared to ours.
- my dog Sandy jumps from couch to couch sometimes(moving the couches in the process). i think she just gets excited and playful.i can think of a human action like this...think of a child jumping up and down when they get excited!lol! it's just their way of telling you they are happy and excited!hope that helps!:)
- LOL, I love when they get the rips!! It is just a way of burning off some excitement energy!!
- Its just excitment. My dog does it. He runs circles around the yard til he is out of breath.
- pent up energy=walk him more give him a raw hide bone
- It's called frenetic random activity. They just have it. It's normal. Even with power walking, regular excersise, my dogs will suddenly in the house have a surge. I have started using the "watch me" command and it has stopped them in their tracks when it gets to the point of irritation.
- My dog will do this once in a while... I call it the 'Berner Buzz'
- My 2 dogs get the zoomies once a day. Usually at night time. I love it! They are bulldogs so when they run their little lips are flapping and they have a huge "smile" on their face. My oldest one gets a "crazy" look in her eyes and runs thru our apartment at top speed. Walls and furniture are no obstacles for her; she'll run right into a wall and bounce off, stop, bark at the wall, and shes off again. My youngest one runs thru the house and likes to bounce off the cabinets in the kitchen. He likes to stop on the area rug in the kitchen, and barks at nothing in particular and then "Scooby Doo Runs" (you know when scooby runs and goes nowhere at first!) on the carpet and bunches it all up under his feet and then shoots forward. He usually ends this routine with a jump on the couch where I am sitting and covers me in kisses. These little fits usually last a minute or 2 and they are totally normal.
- My pup does this, I usually have to get her wound up before she does it though. She rarely does it out of the blue without something first provoking her to run around all fast and crazy! it's cute and funny though
- Samoyed people call it "the zoomies". Great way to run off pent up energy.
- My little girl does that when she gets really excited when she's playing!! It's so cute, it makes us laugh!! lol
- My dog does this EVERY night and it is so funny to watch. If he does it inside, he is usually running so fast that he skips a few of the bottom stairs and slides across my carpet causing a red mark on his tummy from the carpet burn. I have what now looks like a man made track in my back yard from where he has had some many running fits. I can usually get him started by just turning to him really fast and saying, "WHAT??!!" and then he just takes off. He goes so fast it looks like his back legs are tryng to beat his front legs. I don't know why he does this and I don't care. I love it!!
- Ahh, yes, the "crazy dog" moment. My min. schnauzer does this at least twice a day, usually outside. (But also after every bath - apparently to get the bath cooties off) I think of it as him telling me he's so happy, he just has to run! Enjoy it!
