I am going to my first dog race, what should I look for in a dog?

I am going to Whicita Greyhound Dog Races. I am not sure just how to play or what to look for in a winning dog. What is the best way to win? Win, Place or show? Any information you can provide would be appreciated.

  2. I guess you don't know a dog from a horse.
  3. Look mainly for early speed and an inside post (either 1,2 or 3). Without a rider the dogs often get impeded and stumble over each other. Early speed and rail hugging cuts that risk. Dog racing, by the way, is an especially cruel sport. (I once worked for a greyhound track) The animals are almost always put down once they "grade out" or lack the ability to run at all. There are organizations that try to adopt out as many of these ancient lineage animals (began in old Egypt thousands of years ago) as they can. They make great pets - and are terrific ice-breakers out of a walk for those looking to meet the two-legged animals.
