What is the best way to train for the iditarod dog sled race?

I'm thinking of racing in it next year and I was wondering how to best put together a team. Any suggestions? Do I have to use dogs? Can I have my friend Johnny Tsunami pull the sled, along with the dogs? He's pretty strong.
