Would Mike Vick be treated the same if these dogs were greyhounds?

Michael Vick is going to spend time in prison for cruelty to dogs. However, isn't it true that, after greyhounds are done racing and breeding, they get put down as well? Greyhounds aren't even allowed to be adopted out to families because breeders are concerned those dogs will breed new race dogs. In fact, if you own a greyhound and the original owner finds out, they can come pick up your dog and kill him. What's with the double standard?

2. Greyhound racers usually don't torture, electrocute or drown their dogs. They usually have them euthanized. Although this shouldn't be allowed, there is no comparison to what Vick did. NUFF SAID!!! And don't even say they aren't allowed to be adopted....my niece has three greyhounds from racers who didn't want them anymore!!! You are getting your facts from someones rearend. 3. Mike Vick made his bed, let him lay in it. Where did you hear that about Greyhounds? It's not true. After racing Greyhounds are usually sent to "Greyhound Rescues", they are spayed/nuetered and place them up for adoption. So there no double standard.

5. Greyhound racing is legal. That's a huge difference. But I see greyhound racing and dogfighting as cruel and abusive. There is a measure coming up to vote in Massachusetts to ban greyhound racing. I'm boycotting the NFL because they should have fired Michael Vick. No question. The only way Michael Vick can make it right is to help catch other people involved in illegal dogfighting and share what he knows for the rest of his life or until it no longer exists.

PETA is trying to close down the dog racing industry as well and you are right to a point, these dogs are also mistreated but it depends on the owners and the company that they race with. and these people have gone to jail too. Vick got caught, many bad things happen and people get away with it, but when they get caught they go and should go to jail. I am mixed about dog fighting as well as cock fights and the like, however, I cannot with any concionce think that torturing, choking, drowning and electrocuting an animal to death because it does not like to fight is right. double standards, I don't really believe in that, when you get caught you pay the price. before you start something you don't know much about, look into the punishment for greyhound racing abuse. then get back to us.
7. Torturing a dog to death and euthanasia are two different things!!! Micheal Vick should be euthanized, *not* tortured to death, see tha difference. You must be smoking crack!!!! 9. Animal abuse is still abuse no matter what breed or kind of animal it is. There are greyhound rescues that take these dogs in and find loving homes for them.

11. Actually, there are a lot of greyhound racers that are adopted out as pets when their careers are over. Greyhound rescues get around previous owners concerns by neutering/spaying every dog before they are adopted out. I'm not sure who in the world you're getting your information from. Try googling greyhound racing and abuse and you'll find article after article of those charged with FELONIES! Most of them will serve longer sentences than Micheal Vick.
12. Um, excuse me? They don't drown, beat, hang and torture the greyhounds when putting them down. They "humanely" euthanize them. What Vick did is inhumane and he should be locked up for years and never allowed a dog or any animal for that matter. Anyone who can slam a dog on the ground to kill it, or drown it with their bare hands has a serious mental problem. The guy is insane and should be locked away, along with all the other freaks he was in business with. Get over it! Just because you may like the guy does not mean what he did wasn't wrong!

14. I hate to say it, but there are some racing kennel owners in this country who won't give up their dogs to adoption groups. They do put their dogs down. Most kennel owners make sure most of their dogs go to adoption groups for adoption. Still, 20,000 greyhounds a year still get put down. Most humanely, but not all. And there are no records of how many puppies get put to sleep, because they haven't been registered yet. It's still better than the 40,000 a year a couple of years ago. Michael Vick deserves the max punishment for what he did. He knew it was wrong. The naacp wants him to play football again after his sentence. I don't think he should, and I've signed every petition I could so he'd get the max. There is no room in this society for people to do this to animals. They've always said, they start with animals, and next it's people. It's time for this kind of nonsense to stop, and with heavy penalties. And any person that gives a thumbs down, has very serious issues, or worse. I know what I'm talking about here.
15. You have been completely and totally misinformed. You only need to "Google" "greyhound adoption groups" and see what you get. And No, the original owner does not come and pick up your dog once the dog has been adopted. Chances are, the owner is the one who gave them to the adoption group to begin with!. I have two greys, that's how I know!
16. First, cruelty to any animal should be punishable, and the punishment should be more than a slap on the wrist. You may be slightly misinformed about greyhounds. I am on the board of directors of my local greyhound rescue. I have retired greyhounds and and have been working with them for years. You are right about one thing.. many greys are put down because there simply aren't enough homes for retiring racers/dogs that aren't good enough to race. Since racing isn't going to stop tomorrow, something has to be done in the mean time. We (adoption groups) work diligently to establish relationships with the kennels and farms so we can adopt our the dogs already out there. We organize many hauls of our local dogs to feed the demand for greys in places that have adoption groups but no tracks. All of these dogs are spayed/neutered as soon as they come to the adoption groups to prevent breeding, all adopters are extensively interviewed so that we know that the dogs are going to forever, loving homes. And as far as the original owners, we have had many donate to us for placing their dogs, and you can put your name on the NGA (the organization that governs grey racing) papers that state that you are the true, legal owner.. so no one is going to take your dog unless you are mistreating it.
