- Same. I like it BUT i only think it should be if all dogs get brill homes afterwards
- Some dogs live to run and race. As long as the dogs are treated humanely and are more than just a racer to the owner, I have no problem with it. It is the same as having a dog for hunting or for shows.....or just as a beloved companion that is a member of his human pack.
- Which kind of racing are you asking about? Sled dogs or greyhounds? Well as it pertains to sled dogs, I live in an area where they have sled races. I've watched some of the training and races, and I tell you the dogs love it. They live for it. The are so eager to get in their harnesses and go. So as long as the dogs are treated well (which the ones I know are), then yes it should be allowed, and that shouldn't be taken away from the dogs. As for Greyhounds, I don't know much about that type of racing other than what I've read at Greyhound rescue groups, so I don't think I could make a good informed opinion either way. Loki, Lol are you serious, there are really races with Dachshunds in customes.
- No, not ALL dogs are mistreated and hurt though, that is the problem. The racing itself doesn't harm the dog, they love it, it is just the bad owner who makes the dogs life worse after the race. This problem is whether or not people are racing dogs there is still going to be dog abuse and dogs that aren't taken care of. This problem will never go away just because racing is banned. Plus, I bet people will still do it, just like dog fighting which actually harms the dog or even kills it. Just because they are told they can't do it people aren't going to listen.
- Define "dog racing".... Greyhound racing? Sled dog racing? Those stupid weener dog races where they put Dachshunds in costumes? ADD: Dane Lover -- Yes, sad but true... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dachshund_racing I guess the costumes are optional. :) http://cache.viewimages.com/xc/2560549.jpg?v=1&c=ViewImages&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF1934A2752006EF5F0EDAC3C68F0A94F750D5A5397277B4DC33E
- sight hounds love to run and need an outlet, so I say yes for lure coursing, no to track racing for entertainment, those people are in it for $, not the love the breed or sport.
- racing dogs have an inbred desire to run, so no, it is not cruel to race them. it would be cruel to constantly stifle their natural urge. there are so many ways to mistreat dogs and other animals, but going against their natural instincts is one of the worst. that is why it is always a good idea for someone who is planning on getting a dog to thoroughly research the breed they want in order to make sure they are willing and able to give the dog the kind of life it needs and deserves.
- Well.... depending on which kind of dog racing you're referring to, I think sled dog racing is fun, and the dogs absolutely love it. But greyhound racing is a different matter. I don't think that should be allowed. Yes, Greyhounds are energetic dogs, but I think there are much better ways to exercise them, and do what they love without being hurt, or mistreated. Interesting question.
