- YEEHAAAHH cowboy. i think so. good luck they are probably bitter and old.
- That may be tricky, if she's a retired race horse. She's only known a certain type of training, so switching will take some time. I think you can do it, but not in 4 months. You can't rush training with horses. Good luck!
- it depends how old she is-if shes fast then thats good-it just depends-good luck lol-yeeeehaaaa
- Judging from your question's details, I would say no. Four months is too short a time, especially if you've never trained a barrel horse all the way from the basics to competing. And if she's stubborn on top of it, you're going to need to take it slow and teach her correctly and not push for time. I'd find a different horse with more training or potential, or hire a professional trainer.
- You may be able to train this horse to barrel race, in fact I would say it is highly likely, but in 4 months? Probably not. If you want her to be very proficent at it you will want to take as much time as SHE needs and not rush her. Otherwise you will have a wreck just looking for a place to happen. What's the rush, the rodeo has been around since the west began, its not going anywhere. You can always enter next year. As far as being stubborn, racing is NOTHING like western riding, and she may still be trying to cope with the change. Did you know that racers are taught to go faster when the reins are pulled tighter? Not exactly what western riding is taught.
- thats just selfish. dont rush your horse just so she can win for you in barrel racing. all you will achieve is to ruin a horse. training horses is not about how fast you get it done. take your time and get a professionals help because you obviously dont know what you are doing
- If you don't know how to train a horse to do that discipline, then don't try. Send it to a trainer that knows what they are doing so the horses and yourself doesn't get hurt.
- Ahhhh no. I doubt it. First, this horse isn't stubborn, simply untrained. Second, this horse is most likely too large to turn barrels and do them well...third, I would suggest a trainer to help you out. You need months of ground work, transition work and simple training techniques to help this horse prepare for the future....not just 4 months of racing around barrels to prep for rodeo work.
- Yes, it's possible to train a horse that's from the track. We've done it before and they make great barrel racers if the rider knows what they're doing. She'll need to get the hang of the pattern first --- then take baby strides in finding the correct technique.
- No. Everything is possible but, no, you should not even think about the rodeo season or put your aspirations before the horse. Your horse can be trained for barrels but if you want a long term career with your horse, it takes time. You need to get that horse 100% trained before you look at running barrels and you need to go slow on the barrel pattern, making sure you don't push to hard to fast. You need to train the horse at its speed, not yours. If you want to run in 4 months, at rodeo, you should buy a finished rodeo horse and they are pricey. There is a reason for that, all the training that goes into these horses didn't happen in 4 months. You need to retrain this horse, pattern the horse, start hauling the horse and seasoning it before you start to worry about competing on her or her career will be over before it starts. If you have not trained a barrel a horse and want to get these kind of results out of her I'd suggest finding a good barrel trainer. One that is proven and is saught after by others.
- Good luck
