- just another sad thing that humans let happen to animals im afraid :-(
- Hey, let's hear it for pan-European understanding.
- because they like them
- Have you ever tried a retired race horse?...they're delicious.
- Why do we let retired race greyhounds fall into the wrong hands sometimes? Many people, once their horse is retired, will sell to the highest bidder, not caring about the outcome of the animals. This is why there should be a retired racehorse rescue, just like there are rescues for retired greyhounds.
- WTF?????
- those stinking frogs might save your bacon one day
- Because the race horse owner's dont care. once the horse is 'broken,' a word used to describe horse's that can not race no more, the owners do not care they just want the money and once the horse is put to sleep they do not care what happens. even if it means they get sent to france to be eaten by the frogs hope that helps you
- Cos it apparently tastes like beef.
- why do we let our livestock get transported live all over europe? why do we import livestock and kill it here after hours of travel? why do we forget that all animals have feelings, levels of tolerance, needs and senses? at least a race horse has seen fresh air, ran with the wind and ate a healthy diet, possibly even been shown some affection.....which is a whole lot more than can be said for the meat which lands on our plates................its time we thought more about these things and stopped letting someone do our dirty work for us..........
- Hi Jock, I wasn't aware of this I'm really shocked.
- your right,,,, perhaps we should eat more of the four legged ba5tards over here then there wouldnt be so many mountains of 5hit on the roads to avoid
- As a veggie i don't think anyone should eat animal flesh. i despair at the abuse we hand out to those who cant defend themselves.
- animals have a right and they should not be eaten grrrrr
- Can you personally support every retired race horse? My guess is no. Most race horses that come off the track have physical health issues, and mental health issues. Its a nice thought that every race horse can go live with a family somewhere, but reality is many ex racers are dangrous and can not be retrained. These are the horses sent to slaughter. www.canterusa.org is a rescue that helps rehome ex race horse. Bottem line is that not every race horse can be rehomed, many are very high spirited animals with problems. These are the ones being slaughtered. What else is there to do with them really? They can be euthanized, but this costs a ton of money, both for the actual euthanization, and for disposal of the body. Many race farms would not stay in buisness if they could not auction off ex race horses. Horse rescues are over flowing with horses, they simpily can not support them all. Horses cost a ton of money and time to care for, and rescues do not have the resources. Bottom line is something has to be done with them. Unless you personally are donating a ton of money to horse rescues, dont complain about horse slaughter. A hot tempered race horse is better off going to a slaughter house for a quick death, than being sold to someone that does not know how to care for it. People buy race horses because they are pretty, and dont understand how high strung they can be. These horses then get neglected and abused. Also many ex race horses are not sold directly from the track, to slaughter, but to people that attempt to retrain them, these people then send off untrainable horses to auction. It is also better that these horses get sent to slaughter houses in the US that are regulated by the governent. Horse slaughter being illegal will just mean that horses will be shipped in horrible conditions, farther distances to unregulated slaughter houses in mexico. Horses will still be slaughtered though... When asking a question that one sided, it is easier to get others to accept your point with out negitive culture bashing comments in them. Your question just reveals your ignorance, and discredits your opinon. Some cultures find it disgusting that Americans eat cow meat... its all perspective.
- in between the race horses and the garlicky frogs i got lost.who's retired?
- What part of this bothers you?
