anyone know a link for a page to search for race horse records?

We have a retired race horse and was looking for info on him. we can make out the # on the inside of his lip but i cant find out how to get info with it. # Z4774 (we think) Any info will help and maybe there are more numbers he was wanting to eat when we was looking so he wasn't very cooperative at the time. Thank You.

3. I don't have thoroughbreds myself, but I know people who have had a great deal of success with http://www.pedigreequery.com
4. If by race horse, it is a Thoroghbred the answer is the Jockey Club; another poster gave the link. If it is a Standardbred, Quarter Horse or other breed that also races, you will have to go to their breed registry. None of this will help, however, unless you have the exact tatoo with all letters and numbers.
5. I agree with above statement. My mare is Quarter race track. I can find the sire/dam information by going on line to the Quarter Horse Association and looking them up. Then I can also try to contact the owners as well. Now I know this seems silly but when does your horse need his teeth floated? Possibly soon, you can just take a better look with out much hassle if you sedate your horse while teeth or being done.
