Predominantly because of the slower pace in one, and shorter distance in the other.
When a pure and a pure do it they produce a pure, but rhe genes are the same. Ussually a a bad trait is reccesive, so w/ a pure a b trait and a b trait come together and it produces a weaker horse.
Is that true? I've never seen the statistics on it. Standardbreds might have fewer accidents, but when they happen, it's a lot more serious. All the horses are lined up right behind one another, and with the carts behind them, they can't just jump out of the way to avoid a fallen horse. Then if one of the horses jumps a fallen horse, the cart comes rolling right over the fallen horse and the driver on the cart goes flying. I've seen some standardbred accidents where they had to untangle the horses from the carts... there were wheels and metal pieces everywhere. It didn't look good at all.
the answer would be with their legs. if you look at the standardbred and quarter horse, their legs are thicker so therefore their bones are bigger than in a thoroughbred. a throroughbred runs 35 miles an hour and most injuries are in their legs. standardbreds cant run past a mile and not that fast and most of their accidents are in their hind quarters from pulling the carts {aka trotters or pacers} quarter horses can only run a quarter of a mile and rarely break down. so you have speed versus distance with different problems from the way they run. hope this helps.
There are a lot fatal injuries in both those sports. I think people just don't know/realize because they are no where near as widely televised. I was at Arapahoe park last summer and saw a qtr horse have to be put down. It also happened after the race was finished and they were galloping the horses out. I really think it happens a lot more then people know it's just not happening on national tv in front of millions of people.

well your wrong Standardbred horses have a a 100 percent for bows and quarters have the same as T.B you just see more of tb racing then you do the others believe me
