Can a trotting horse run as fast as a thoroughbred horse?

In horse racing,can a trotting horse run as fast as a thoroughbred racehorse? I hope that I have not misled any one. I was referring to the high stepping horses used in the Kentucky Derby USA.

1. a trot is just a type of movement. if a trotter gallops, that is fastest movement, so yes they can it goes like this;- walk, trot, canter, gallop.
2. Nope ,, they do not have the speed for running And they really do not run that well Thats why they are trotters, and or pacers !
3. May the fastest pacer in the world might be able to beat the slowest thoroughbred. Pacers/trotter have a running start and can run a mile in 1:48 on their best day. A slow thoroughbred with a gate start should still be able to do it in 1:45 with no problem.
