- Red Rum is the most famous horse in recent history. He won the Grand National 3 times and he's buried near the winning post at Aintree. Arkle was a really famous sprinter, Desert Orchid was a really famous jumper too, he caught the imagination with his guts and will to win and the fact he was a grey (Almost completely white, but there's no such thing as a white racehorse) Shergar, Mill reef and Nijinsky were all top horses in their day, all derby winners. Shergar was later Kidnapped by the IRA and was never found. Other famous jumpers include Best Mate who won the cheltenham gold cup 3 times Dubai Millennium won 9 out of his 10 starts when injury ended his career, he won with a record time at the dubai world cup but died shortly after becoming a stud in 2001. I could go on but these are from the top of my head..

- Arkle, the finest steeplechaser ever, who was so far ahead of most of his competitors that his presence led to the introduction of the long handicap; Golden Miller who won the Cheltenham Gold Cup and the Grand National; and 2 horses from the 19th century The Flying Dutchman and Voltigeur who were 2 of the greatgrandsires of St. Simon, one of the all time greats, both on the turf and at the stud. In modern times you cannot omit Northern Dancer who was a descendant of that brilliant horse Nearco. Ribot was another, unbeaten and Italian bred.
- John Henry just died.. he was quite famous.. In AQHA I have to go with Dash for Cash or Easy Jet although Tom Moon is very famous. All AQHA horses in beginning started with Steel Dust... named that because he would race against the locomotives across the prairie..
