Is dog fighting really any worse than horse racing or dog racing?
It's breeding for competition just like dog fighting. I think they should make dog fighting legal. And set it up with rules to protect the dogs just like the UFC with humans. they could have referees that are wearing protective equitment to moniter the fight with a point based scoring system. people could bet on the fights. Dog fighting is going to happen whether we want it to or not so why not make it legal to protect the dogs. No more dogs dying in fights and dogs being killed after long fights by acts such as drowning first off I am a hippy from Canada so my friends will just think this is a funny thought since it will never happen. But again this legal form of dog fighting would be completely different than the underground. I mean MMA still has an underground that is far more gruesome than the legal UFC. As to what the legistics of this league would be I don't know but maybe a solution like this should be given some thought to offer a legal much less barbaric alternative. This is just evolution in rome humans fought to the death the same thing might happen to dog fighting where it's more control

- know your going get attacked my hippies for that lol
- i dunno sure ur gonna get a lot of controversy on this one but im gonna say the big difference is the dogs are pretty much fighting for their lives its like war or something
- Um, you answered yourself, but Ill point out the obvious. RACING is running around a track. FIGHTING is purposely putting another living animal into a box/ring/pit w/ something knowing one or the other is going to die or at the very least be critically injured. Humans know when to quit when they are in the ring, and they arent starved and beaten to "train" for the fight. Not only that, but the dog fights are ruining the reputation of a perfectly wonderlful breed of dog. Some states are now petitioning to have pit bulls killed off forever. A common misconseption is that they are vicious killers, which comes from the way they behave after being treated unbelievably horrible for who knows how long. When a horse wins a race, it gets good food, a wreath of flowers, a medal, when a dog wins a fight it is either so chewed up they electrocute it or is still in such a blind rage they break its neck. And yeay for the referees not getting chewed to pieces, what about the dogs? Point system? One ear hanging from its mouth, 10 points, tail, 20? (Im not a hippie but i have pit bulls and people that could do this make me sick)
- Last time I checked MMA didn't involve two human beings killing each other, and if Chuck Liddell loses a fight he doesn't risk having someone string him up by his neck and set him on fire or having his heat bashed into the ground until he's dead like it was done to the dogs in this case. Just because crimes happen a lot doesn't mean that we should stop trying to stop them. People are also murdered on a daily basis, so should be stop prosecuting murderers just because they happen every day? Where's the logic in that?
- Horse racing is the sport of kings, whereas dog fighting is the sport of ignorence. Think about your assessment a little more and you will come to the same conclusion. Seriously if you had the same amount of cash to invest in dog fighting or throughbred horses, why put it in illict affairs? Why even question the law? Just make money in the proper way. No need to be stupid. Isn't it all about the money? I wouldn't risk my money and freedom, would you? Do you know the nature of dogs fighting? Dog fighting can never be made safe. For you to assume and theorize that it could ever be done on an intellgent and safe level, just proves your stupidity.
- Take this question over to the Horse Racing side! Everyone knows the football pages have had enough of any talk about dogs, Vick, racial issues (real or not), etc. Football is here for real now, and lets all stick to it.
- yes, dog fighting is worse. But it's more interesting than gridiron which the sport of gays
- Dogfighting is brutal.
- Horse and dog racing is a cruel business as well. I wish it could be stopped, but it is legal and it is hard to end something that has been accepted for centuries. But just because people are allowed to do these two sickening things, would it help to add another even more vile abuse of animals to the mix? NO Let's progress in our fight to end animal abuse, not regress.
- I am in full agreement with this person I could not have said it better Um, you answered yourself, but Ill point out the obvious. RACING is running around a track. - OK. How about you & I race around the block & then we'll fight to the death in a no holds barred pit match. Still sound like there's no difference between a racing dog and a pit dog ? PS If it's inevitable that it's gonna be the Christans vs the Lions again, bet the house on the Lions. I don't care what rules or how many refs you have, the Lions are gonna kill 'em.
- If you are asking this question, then you very obviously have no idea of the reality of dog fighting. There is no way to protect the dogs while fighting. Fighting is still fighting. You compare dog fighting to the UFC. Humans have the capability to understand instructions. Animals do not. They know only what they are taught. Do you think the dog will be able to tell when it is close to ripping its opponent's ear off and just stop? No. Instead of promoting it, you should be raising awareness to the cruelities of animal fighting and be lobbying for harsher penalities. Check out this video, then try to tell me that dog fighting should be legal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDqWupiwQko
