Cross Breeds

I just bought a Golden Retriever puppy and it bites me. 2 Months Old?

My Golden retriever puppy bites me whenever he gets too excited. In addition to this he growls at me. I am unsure if he is doing this out of anger or play but I want him to stop. Going to various sites I have heard numerous ways to stop him, and through this am confused. I would greatly appreciate an answer because I want to resolve this problem before he gets older + stronger.

  1. Whenever our puppy would bite we would grab her snout and hold it shut and say, "no!" and she eventually got the idea. The growling is out of play, its nothing to worry about, he will grow out of it! Good luck!
  2. When you are playing with the puppy and he bites you, shout "no" at the top of your lungs, and then stop playing/walk away. Your puppy will learn that biting stops the game completely.
  3. My dog did this too when he was a puppy. It use to scare me -- I couldn't get away from him sometimes and his sharp little teeth hurt! Is he doing it in a playful way or aggressive/fearful? If it's playful, then just make a loud yelp or "OUCH!" when he nips you. Make it sound like he REALLY hurt you--loud enough to startle him. This is a signal dogs understand that means "You're being too rough!" This method got my dog to stop biting within a week. Good luck! P.S. You might want to avoid combative games like tug-o-war and wrestling, because those can really excite a dog into growling and nipping.
  4. My dog would bite when he was two months. It is only because he is teething you should get him the baby teething rings they work. As the dog will get older he will nibble your hand lightly as a playful gesture and he may growl playfully too. Hope this helps.
  5. my maltese did that when he was younger, he did it manily when he was in the middle of teething(we got him at 6 months, hes almost 11 months now), he still does but he is beginning to stop. When he bites me and my mom while playing, we either grab his snout or shout NO or Ouch loud enough to startle him, we aslso have been using a spray bottle which has been helping him stop. if u use the spray bottle dont use it to much and dont spray it in there eyes or face because it could cause an infection.
