How long should I walk my Golden Retriever puppy?
I have a 10 week old Golden Retriever puppy who will be allowed out in 3 weeks once she has her final jabs. Could anyone tell me how long/far we should be walking her when she is 13 weeks old? And at what age do we increase the length/distance etc?

- Keep walking until she seems tired and/or fed up. Genreally, 20 minutes, but if your dog loves it, it cant hurt if she can handle it.
- I walk my pups until they get tired. There is no set distance. Watch her body language to gauge how far is good. As she grows so will her stamina
- She won't need much exercise (except to run around in a safe yard or a little walk down the street) until she's about six months old. Then you can start taking her on longer walks, perhaps about a mile. Judge the dog's behavior and energy levels to decide how long is long enough. Goldens are active dogs, so she'll need a lot when she's grown. Until then, go easy! A large breed pup can be harmed by too much strenuous running (their bones and joints are very sensitive).
- as long as u want
- Do as much as she can handle. Start by going around the block, go to the nearest park if you can. There isnt really a set amount of when you should increase lengh/distance, its just what the dog can handle & you'll notice because she'll want to go further, thats what my dog did.
- Dont go that far... just start off with a little then each time go alittle longer
- walk her about 200 yards
- she is too little to be taken to far from home. I would not take her off your property until she id done with all her shots. Then only for a short 10 to 15 minute walk. Pups tire out easily and she will not be able to go for much longer than this. You'll end up carring her back home!
- i would build her up gently try a set time of 25 mins and see how she goes if its too much for her lessen the time and build up. only your puppy can truly tell you how long. congrats on your new puppy! :)
- There is no set time or distance for walking a puppy. Your puppy will let you know when she is tired. Please remember that until she gets used to the idea of being controlled by the leash and collar she will "fight" the collar and leash. The best thing you could do would be to get her used to wearing the collar and put the leash on and take practice walks around the house. When she stops and pulls against the leash resisting the "following" shke gently and call her so she will come up to you instead of pulling against you. Congrats on the new puppy. Best of luck with the leash training
- Goldens are high energy dogs as pups walk her as long as you have time for and she wants to go they keep their puppy attitude untill about 4 years old. goldens are wonderful dogs with great temperments they are smart and want to please. work with the dog teach it tricks give it jobs to do have it retrieve things. as long aqs the dog is busy it will be happy and will give you far less behavioral problems.
- just walk her until she gets tired. when she is tired she will walk slower, sometimes look back at you, and she may just stop walking. the best thing to do is stay in the same area near your house for the first few walks until you know how long she can go. with daily walks she will build up more stamina and be able to go on longer walks. my chi could only go bout 15 min at first before she got tired and within 2 weeks of daily walks she could go up to almost 30 min.
- The general rule is 5 minutes per month of her life.
- the maximum should be only 15 mins. taking them for long walks when they are that young, isnt good for their bones.
- No dog big or small should be given forced exercise until 9 months for small dogs and 12 months for large dogs. They will get plenty of exercise booming round the house and garden. If a dog gets to much exercise at a young age it can cause development problems. If you don't have enough room round you house then carry you puppy to an open area and then allow it to play preferably with another puppy.
- I have always believed in 5 mins waking for each month of the age of the dog. So as your puppy will be just over 3 months old when you take her out then 15 mins walking should be enough. The reason for this is very important, esp in larger breed dogs. basically if you over exercise a dog when it is young and growing then you can damage its joints and can cause the dog not to grow properly. If the short walks dont tired her out then you could walk her 8 mins to a play when she can have free running and then walk her 8 mins back home again. This way she gets her allocated exercise time plus if she still needs to let off steam she can with the free running. But make sure the free running is on grass as it is more strain and impact on the joints if it is on conrete or similar.
- Well you shouldnt just play with her untill her last set of shots she could get parvo deadly diese ><http://www.workingdogs.com/parvofaq.htm So just let her in backyard and play with her till she has all her shot 16 weeks old. Good luck on new puppy
