My golden retriever puppy keeps trying to run inside the house. How do i stop him from doing that?

We have a 22 week old golden retriever puppy which we keep outside. When ever we try to go inside the house from the backyard he tries to run inside. How do stop him/ train him to stop doing this?

1. A better question. How do we train our dog so that we can keep it in the house and not be a lawn ornament? Dogs are pack animals so to keep it outside away from its pack is cruel. 2. He wants your company. If you don't want your dog to be part of the family, please find it a different home, hopefully someone who will appreciate these wonderful 4 legged creatures.
3. Dogs are social animals. He's still young and was taken from his littermates only to be put outside...alone. Why is he stuck outside? What's the point of having a dog that lives outside? Not a difficult solution. Let him inside so that he can be with his pack (you and your family).

5. I agree -- especially with a puppy and a golden retriever to top it off. Goldens are "family" animals and deserve to be with the family. If you didn't want the dog to come in the house, you shouldn't have gotten one in the first place.
6. pooooooor baby! He wants to be inside!!! Why keep a dog outside! They aren't meant to live outside. My parents kept our dog out their once all the time and never let her in, she began to get hostile towards us and one winter it got really cold at night and when we got up in the morning and went outside to check on her she was just lying hustled up to the house freezing! A could of weeks later she died of a Phnemonia or something. You shouldn't keep your dog outside! He wants to be inside, you should let him come in.
7. You need to be the alpha. The dog should be taught to sit and stay at doorways, gates and stairways. The dog should NEVER be allowed to go before you through a door, up or down stairs or through a gate. Start with basic obedience -- sit, stay, down, come, heal. Demand your dog sit and stay before you open the door. I do agree, however, that your dog should NOT be kept exclusively outside. That's no life for a dog.
8. He really is better off learning to be an indoor dog. He is running back into the house because he wants to be with the humans. Goldens in particular want to be with people.

10. Repeat after me: "The day my puppy doesn't want to be with me INSIDE the house is a very BAD day." You have a golden retriever---a dog which is poorly suited to living outside and alone. The day a GR doesn't prefer to be with people is a bad day for the dog and the owners because it is a sign you have BROKEN a Golden---one of the sweetest, lovable, most obedient breeds on earth. Bring your dog inside or give it to a breed rescue group (find one through www.petfinder.com) because training a 22 week old Golden to live outside is like pouring sugar and bleach in the gas tank of a fine automobile---you may not kill it but you will ruin any chance it has of EVER running properly.

12. He wants to be with you. Golden Retrievers are very family oriented dogs and they need to be with their people. I would consider bringing him inside with you.
