What is the best shampoo for shih tzu puppies with dry coats?

Please respond only if you own a shih tzu or know of someone who has one. Thank you.

  1. My dachshund had the same problem and my vet recommended a shampoo called "Epi-Sooth". You can get it at your vet. It also won't wash out topical flea tick treatments like most dog shampoos do. :)
  2. check with your local pet store or farm supply store my mom picked up some shampoo but i can't remember the name of it,sorry
  3. I have a Maltese. My Vet said use human Selsun Blue on all these little guys because it doesn't dry out their skin. Just be extra sure not to get it into the eyes.
  4. put a little grease(food) in its food its really good for the coat
  5. aloe-oatmeal dog shampoo. and maby some omega 3, and omegs 6 fatty acids in the dogs diet.
  6. Please do NOT use Selsun Blue or any other human dandruff shampoos on your pet. They are very bad for their skin! I work at an Animal Hospital and we also sell Epi-Soothe, it is a very good shampoo. Or some kind of pet oatmeal shampoo if the skin condition isn't too severe yet. The ph balance in the human shampoos are not the same as the ones created for pets, and can do more damage than good. There are many different kinds of skin conditions caused by different things that can cause flaking of the skin, and there are different kinds of medicated shampoos made specifically for each one. If it is severe, I suggest seeing your vet.(and not one that recommends human shampoo)
  7. Regular Dawn Dish Soap...yes it seems crazy but its excellent it even kills fleas and also makes your dogs coat really shiny and smooth. Its totally safe too so need to worry. I use to use it all the time on my pug puppy.
  8. I have 6 shih-tzus (and they do need me to give them bats between groomings!) If your precious pup has dry, itchy skin, use oatmeal shampoo for dogs (found at your local pet store)and follow the directions on the bottle. If your baby has dry hair (as all shih-tzu's do but some more than others): use YOUR conditioner on her/him after shampooing (I find good 'ol Pantene works great!) It will make it easier to comb thru. If your Shih-Tzu has long hair (at one time mine did & it was dry and matted easily) I asked an owner at an actual dog show why her dog's hair was so shiney...she says to use OIL in it (not too much) like a mineral oil. And it works. I even used a few spritzs of people anti-frizz/hair shine product I bought at Walgreens. It keeps it shiney and tangle-free longer. ps- conditioner for dogs is expensive and it sucks (on shih-tzus anyway) Hope this helps!
