- Its usually between 4-6 wks. try them out on a liitle bit and see how they do but introduce them to it slowly as to not upset their stomachs. i have 3 pomeranian puppies right now that are 6 wks and they started about 2 wks ago eating at the mothers food so i let them, and they are doing fine!!
- YOU SHOULD START WHEN THEY GET 2 MONTHS OLD. (& THAT IS THE BEST AGE TO FOR A PUPPY TO BE GIVEN/TAKEN SINCE IT DOSENT NEED TO BE NURSED ANY MORE....)
- They start trying their mothers dry food at about 5 weeks. If you notice them trying to take it, add a little warm water next time so it's easier for them to chew. As their teeth grow the dam will refuse to feed them and she will wean them.
- At 3-4 weeks, I start soaking the kibble in warm water to soften it and mush it up a bit so it will be easier for them to chew. At 5 weeks, I start leaving the kibble out all the time but continue with the soft food until they are eating the kibble okay. I let my mama dogs decide when to wean the pups. Sometimes it will be 5-6 weeks and sometimes it will be later. Sometimes they will feed them until they are about 10 weeks old.
- Here is another backyard breeder breeding puppies as a cash crop. If you don't know the answer to the question you shouldn't be breeding. There's more to breeding than sticking 2 dogs together to make money. There are so many dogs being put down in shelters because there are to many dogs and not enough homes including chihuahua's. The main reason for this is backyard breeders like yourself. GET YOUR DOG SPAYED for crying out loud. Number one reason for the deaths of healthy dogs--EUTHANASIA!!!!!!!! GEt the picture?
