  1. hard to say. some female dogs will not let the male dogs anywhere near after the puppies are born - for 5 or 6 weeks. I don't know if any make dogs are actually a threat to the puppies. so it might be good to make a separate bed for the male.
  2. The thing is how dose the male dog act. If he is calm and always around the female and has no harsh tude with any other dog no need to. However if he is adgiated agrvated and has issues with other dogs he needs to be removed. Just like pepole some male dogs are better dad's then others. Oh he should be removed if the mommy dog seems to be anoyed with him he may be being a bit over protctive and helpful to her.
  3. some females will let him near but sometimes not touch the puppys and some wont let him near at all really depends on the breed some will stay away without being told some wont but like he said depends if he is aggresive with other dogs or not
  4. I always seperated dad from the mom and pups! Once the mating is finished there really is no need for him to be around. Some dads are very good with the pups once they are older but I would never trust dad around new borns at all. Most mom's dont allow other dogs around her new litter and it tends to make them very nervious too. I dont like nervous moms. They can hurt one of the pups or even themselves if they feel the need to defend the litter. I recomend that durring whelping and for at least 6 weeks after the pups have arrived keep dad away from mom and pups and then only let him take a peek at the pups.
  5. Having puppies is not like a warm fuzzy family experience for people. There are many instincts at play here and a lot will depend on the sire and dam themselves. Mom might be too protective and attack male. Male may not take the pupies for a walk or bowling but might think they are edible, heck mom might think they are edible. Male may be also protective of babies and attack people (including family)who try to get near them. There is no script that the dogs have read, this is not Little House on the Prairie this is dogs - anything can happen.
