  1. Price shouldn't matter. You can get a cheap puppy, but the medical problems that dog will end up having in old age will be very costly. A reputable breeder never has cheap puppies. If you don't want to spend to much, you can spend $90 to adopt a Maltese from a rescue.

  3. Haha thats weird, I just got my Maltese and I live in Portland. I got him from a breeder, but he was $900. I would definately look into rescues. Check petfinder.com, I was just looking today and they have lots of purebred maltese's. Also, check kijiji.com. Lots of breeders on that site. Just be sure you dont get a byb :)

  5. Like the first poster said, price shouldn't matter because the cheaper they are the better the chance you have of buying a poorly bred dog with health, genetic, or behavior problems. You should want to pay the extra cash to buy a puppy from a reputable breeder the does genetic testing, takes care of their dogs, and works with you to find a good match - that way you won't be spending thousands on vet bills. I always think - if you must put a limit on the the price of the pup, can you afford everything else? Buying doesn't end at buying the dog itself, in fact i don't think it ever ends! We spent about $400 for supplies and vet care for our dog in the first month (crate, toys, food, flea/tick, heart worm, shots, etc.) And we still pay for food, replacement toys, vet care, grooming, training, etc. The best place to find low cost or cheap dogs is the local shelters. Just make sure they do vet checks prior to adoption as well as behavior tests so you know you are getting a healthy well behaved dog!
