- Not to be mean or an activist....lol why not adopt a mutt from a shelter then you would be giving a poor homeless pup a GREAT home instead of a cold shelter. But look @ breeders on-line that ship internationally if you must have a shepherd.
- I would recommend that you first try the SPCA in Durban: http://www.spcadbn.org.za/adoptions.php You can contact from that page.
- Hi I'm all the way from Australia. I found a website that lists breeders etc. in South Africa. petsplace.co.za If you don't find what your looking for there maybe you could post an add in their classifieds. German Shepherds can suffer from hip problems so make sure you buy yours from a respectable breeder to be on the safe side.
- A great place to look is AKC.org. They have registered breeders on their site and I am sure that you will find a quality dog because I was looking just the other day for one, and the dogs that are best bred come from Germany from what I've read. I also know about Craigslist.org. This is a website that people list different things on, and one of categories is pets. They have an array of different pets on there, and sometimes you have to comb through to find one you want, but a lot of times, it is worth it. I hope this helps, and God Bless you.

- Contact GSD rescues and see if there is some way that they can screen you and possibly allow you to adopt one of their rescues. It likely won't be a 'puppy' as puppies are what everyone wants but usually not at all what everyone needs. Adopting is what one does from a shelter or rescue. Buying is what one does from a breeder and you need to learn about being able to select a breeder responsibly so you are not supporting a back yard greeder or puppy miller - commercially motivated puppy makers. Locate some decent, knowledgeable breeders in your area and learn as much as you can about the breed and all the needed health, temperament and structural evaluations and needs. Good luck. add: Searching for puppies on the internet will only get you back yard greeders or puppy millers as resposible, knowledgeable breeders won't sell that way. Also the AKC site is good information but NOT good resource for breeders as most of the people advertising on there are not responsible breeders at all -- again, commercially motivated puppy makers and no one that should be supported. Contact the GSD parent clubs and get referals and do your homework on how to assess good breeders.
